" For Sale" (SOLD) 1990 225 HP Johnson, As New

Instigator

Well-known member
This came off the Starliner I bought last summer. I am either 2nd or 3rd owner.
Came from Michigan, barn stored, same family for multiple decades. Was OEM/factory rigged/installed on the boat at the Checkmate factory in 1990.

I ran compression when I bought it and all holes were within 2 or 3 lbs. This is one of the low compression motors from the factory and hence nearly bullet proof and why it's still in one pc. As is I got 67 GPS out of it on my 21' open bow w/more left w/additional set up work.
It has never been down and heads have never been off.
It is BOX STOCK including the still operational VRO. Starts, shifts, idles as new.
I installed a new stator last fall and has maybe an hour on it.
I haven't had the time to do it but, if you buffed and waxed the paint, it would pass as new. All graphics on the cowling are still there and in excellent condition.
The gear case would need painted but that's it.

So as is, a killer, low dollar, museum pc tractor motor for your basser or family boat. Orrrrrrrr........, 2.7 heads, gut the air box, big bore carbs and have a 260+ HP sleeper.
Once the check cash's, it's your choice.

I love this motor, especially being orig on the museum pc Checkmate but I had a 3.3 hydrid on a stand begging to be put in the game.

Comes w/a new VRO tank, 23" 4 blade stainless Shooter and a powerhead cover and all the help you want.

$3500.

Not sure how to turn the pix's right side up. They were correct when I uploaded them.

Thnx Rob.

One moh p.head picture.

Had this thing sold twice and both people bailed.

Last one left $100. deposit behind after signing a receipt that stated "non refundable".
Guy had no clue and was repowering a Merc powered basser.
I think his friends changed his mind and then told me his boat was only rated for a 175.
Told him he should have known that before obligating himself.
People are something.

I changed the L/U fluid, cleaned the t.stats and plugs out in my old ass barn for him.

I HATE games.

I was thinking of the day I drove down to your house for the Vector. Was a fun boat!

Kind of off topic, but I just noticed you are from Clarksville. I grew up on Clarksville Road. Still have family living in that whole area.

No shot? Dude, we live on Clarksville rd!

JW, you mean this one?
Had more fun in that boat, crushed more ego's, went more places etc, etc.

Yep! That's the one. Ran pretty good with the XR2 that I put on it, but I never did get a chance to GPS it when I owned it. Sure was steady on the pad considering that's a 15' boat keel under those 17' Vectors :D

Yep.

An absolute blast to drive but I used to describe it as trying to ice skate on the edge of a razor blade.
You knew if you screwed up it was going to hurt you.

I treated it accordingly w/the respect it demanded.

Yep. I still remember the address, 1043 Clarksville Rd. Man, I haven't lived there for almost 30 years and I still remember that address. My whole family still lives in the Wilmington/Blanchester area. I am down there often.

Very cool. We'll have to go by your old place.

We bought 3 1/2 acres at 2606 S. Clarksville rd.
Came w/a 32' X 56' pole barn.
My wife says it came w/a nice house too but I hadn't noticed.

Make sure and stop by next time through.
