Sound System

Well, I just placed an order with Sonic Electronics! I ordered a pair of the Polk db691 6"x9" marine certified speakers and a pair of the Alpine SPR-M700 7" marine speakers (hoping to get a little bot more bass outta these guys). I bought 6x9 speaker boxes for those... but still don't know what I will do with the 7" circulars. For now I will try the MP3 Player-->minijack-->RCA jacks--> amp idea. Others seems to have good success. I just got a new MP3 player for my b-day that is amazing. It is a Cowon D2. It plays music, videos, displays pictures, and even text files. Most importantly, it sounds better than any MP3 player I have ever used. Down with iPods! Oh, and in other news, I got a new set of water skis for my b-day (had a great b-day this year by the way!). I can't wait to try those puppies out, but I wanna get teh system in first!!

I think You'll love the speakers you went with. A couple of weeks ago I put 4 of the polk 6 1/2 in (db 650) in my car with an alpine head unit. Even without an amp it sounds great. I like the way the sound so much for what I paid for them that I ordered a pair of the 6 x 9 s and another pair of the 6 1/2s. I liked the alpines too, but the price on the Polks at Crutchfield was too good to pass up... the 6 1/2s are $60 and the 6x9s (db 690) at $90...

ps. the other two speakers are for the boat... I'll be interested in where you put yours and how it sounds...

Well I have had no l uck so far on installing the system because the e-bay store I bought the amp from hasn't gotten the amp to me yet. THey say it shipped but it has been over 2 weeks! They keep saying they are getting the tracking number to me, but I think they never shipped it. I am giving them one more chance to refund me, or there will be action taken. Do NOT buy anything from Gooddeals18 on ebay.

I think the 6x9 speakers will be mounted in the boxes, and then wedged in the space above the rear seat like combatrock did. I am thinking of mounting the 7" rounds on the front storage panel. It seems sturdy enough. Does anyone advise against that? I might have to find some 7" round speakers boxes. I haven't found any yet.... maybe I will have to make some?

i love 6x9s
they always seem to have the best sound.

hey to mount those boxes in the side on your eluder
(because it doesnt have the side storage like my enticer)
just staple some heavy duty Velcro to it and stick it to the carpeting
to keep em from flyin out!

good luck with the install

Is mounting the amp to the wood panel like combatrock did the best way to go? Or is it better to mount it to the side of the boat? What kinda of screws should I use for screwing it and other things into fiberglass? I need to fix a few of those woods panels that have come loose.....

IT'S FINISHED! My buddy and I spent all day on it but it came out great! The 7" rounds went into the front bulkhead which we reinforced with 5/8 plywood. The 6x9's went into prefabbed boxes and we just fit those under the rails by the captains chairs. The amp was mounted under the rail like the speakers by the rear seat. You only see about half the amp and you can easily access the controls. I used the RCA to minijack cable and hooked my mp3 player up to it. This works very well! Thanks for all the help guys Ill try to get some pics soon.
