speeds on 1988 170 spectra

I have a 1988 170 with a 97 Merc 150 XR6
I run a 23 pitch laser and it turns at 5700 to 5800 rmp what speeds should I expect and should look at a jack plate and nose cone? Right now the have the motor is set in the lowest hole if I turn hard I loose my hook-up

55-60 MPH DEPENDING ON LOAD. JACK PLATE WILL HELP IN THE HANDLING DEPT. BUT A NOSE CONE WILL NOT HELP UNTIL AFTER 75 MPH.
