SRX Prop

Brian

Member
Hey guys I have a tech. ? for ya'll. Heres the deal, Did some work to the Rude on the boat need more prop so I got a bigger prop. The prop I have is still not enough but I am going to run it easy for the beginning of the season, so my ? is how high can I run the bullet of my nose cone from the bottom of the boat, it seems that the higher Up on the jack plate I go the worse the chine walk gets but the speed gets higher. I am running a 29 omc SRX prop which is not worked "YET" I can turn it until I hit the Rev limiter, 6250.Is there a point were the boat will not resond after I get so high on the jack plate, because I can keep rasing it but the higher I seem to go the worse the handling gets, I would like to hit 85mph with it 82.7gps right now, any info would be a help thanks.

I would say the limit would be water pressure. Have you checked for any play in the steering and motor mounts?
Chine walk can be drive through, just takes practice. Also check you weight distribution. You may have to move the batt. our add some weight.
I would keep going up, to it a little at a time and test. Just watch the water pressure. You may have to try some differant props. You are getting real close to running the prop on the surface. This will make some props act real funny.

Gee Brian 82mph?? I'm glad I built a bigger motor or you might keep up. Seriously, I would keep raising the motor until the pressure drops or the slip increases a lot. You can raise the drive until the nose is even with the hull bottom, but it will be hairy and you will need a 4 blade.

You might need some tabs to control that thing. Be careful!

BTW-
Does anyone in the area Catskill sell 93 octane on the river? Otherwise I will be bringing gas to the boat quite often.

Thanks

ZT- Not sure but I don't think anyone sells 93 on the river, your gonna have to bring some. First things first, My boat will never have tabs! I tried rasing the motor up till the nose was even and the boat ran good till about 5500 anywhere past there I could not control it, in fact the boat was so out of control and jumping around that the gps bounded out of the cup holder and broke the back open and the batteries went everywhere, fun ride.Water pressure drops big time after the bullet is above the bottom of the boat 3-4 in. .

175checkmate- Yeah I know all about Chine walk, and yup I know you can drive through it, ask ZT he's seen the mate in action he knows about driving through chine walk, you were right moving the batt. did help some. Thanks for the tip.

What prop were you running when the drive was even with the hull? If it was not a 4 or 5 blade it will not work anyway. (Even then it's sketchy) When you want to go faster you need to try some crazy crap. Performance marine has proven that to me on multiple occasions.

I don't know what to tell you about the water pressure. Can you mount the P/U lower or add a P/U to the hull and feed it to the motor on an outboard? My motor gets all its water from an external P/U. But that’s an I/O.

And yes, Brian is certifiable. I see that thing teetering almost every weekend. He should name the boat “White Knuckles”

ZT man you know your stuff it was a 4 blade over hub chopper, I am not sure about the external P/U. I don't think they make adapters for outboards, not sure though, and I can't go any lower on the lowerunit. "White Knuckles" I like that. I might be out this week on tues. and wed., don't know.

Brian-

Did you see us installing the air dock across from riverview today? Took 5 hours, but we didn't know what we were doing. It looks good. Hope the rocketship is ready this week to try her out.

Na Bro I didn't see ya, I don't work there anymore, I work for GE Plastics now. Hey did you see the fountain in coxsacki. Don't know anything about it except that it has twins. Are you going to keep the rocket at bliss marine all summer? If so you will have alot eyes on ya. You know that the guy's across the way are nosie, and I can garrentee you that you'll be asked if your boat can beat mine, so just have fun with them when your asked. Talk to ya.

Brian

Yeah it's at Bliss for the summer. I'll have fun will the locals. Haven't seen the fountain yet, but it should be fun. I never tell anyone what she will run until it's to late.(for them) What’s with GE plastics (Mo money?)

Maybe We'll see ya next weekend at the island.

Yeah alot MO money like $12 more an hour, Payed time off, Sick time, Savings, ya know all the good stuff. Sorry man you won't see me next week end, have to work, but maybe the one after.

Brian-

When you mentioned a lot of eyes on me, were you referring to thieves? Or just wannabe's?

I don’t how secure the area really is.

I mean both, Lock everything, any kind of boat that looks like yours or mine will get seen, by good and bad people. Just lock everything up, you'll be better off.

Your proving my theory correct, I think the Enchanter may be one of Checkmates most efficient and fast hulls. 83 from a stock 225 is awesome, I looking for 75+ with my 200 this year, gotta find the right prop.
F150GT

F150GT , yeah the Enchanter is pretty fast. She's stock but at 225+hp. Still can squeze more out of her.......I think!!! Keep in touch will have to go boating together some day!
