Excellent 1988 Checkmate Starfire 18' 7" Great condition all around, meticulously maintained. New outdrive, gimbal ring and bearings, lower shift cable, smart tabs, new seat pedestals and a lot more last summer. Runs and operates great. 260 mercruiser (350 v8) 60+ mph boat. Rather rare having the quiet (not through hull) exhaust on a performance boat with the "big" engine option, surprizingly quick and stealthy. VDO gauges, depth gauge, Sony cd stereo, sony and rockford speakers, 10 disk Kenwood changer and large kenwood amp. Extremely nice all orignal gelcoat. Nice trailer with new tires. I love this boat, but low water levels have made one my favorite boating spots too tretcherous for me to risk this beauty - looking for an outboard now. This is a no BS boat, don't bother with ridiculous offers, if the ad is here it's still available. The ONLY thing I might consider trading for would be a nice performance oriented outboard boat (another Checkmate would be nice)

He's selling it and moving to an outboard for the same reason I sold my Persuader. Look at that rear end squat! Great for looks, terrible for shallow water.

yes the hole shot was not too good on it either. there is alot of weight in the back with the small block. but the engine was so clean you could eat off it. it has a edlebrock aluminum intake on it. fastest i saw with it was 68 gps with a 3 blade 23p cleaver

How bad are we talking in shallow water? My hoist is in about 2' of water, would I be able to creep in there slowly to get the boat on it?

Was the holeshot not the greatest due to the prop you were running 81enchanter?

Semi interested in this boat, maybe I'll have to go for a ride later this week.

These boats are terrible for shallow water. I measured mine at over 30" draft sitting in the lake with no passengers and the drive all the way up, and mine had the lighter 4.3 V6! No way you'll be able to put this boat on a lift sitting in 24" of water.

With 30" of draft I might as well buy a 251 huh Ross?

Thanks for the info JW, the water is more then 2', but 2' is my average depth above the highest point of my hoist cradle. I only draft about 10" with my hog of a four winns since its an OB and can be all the way up if needed.

i have had the ole girl in some pretty shallow places:sssh::bounce:

Its all in the driver right bud?

I think we'll pass on this one...Really want an OB BR.

i never had a problem with the draft of this boat. i used this on houghton lake and cass lake which have their shallower spots and it was fine. if i had a full boat(4 or 5 ppl and coolers) it wouldnt pull out with a 23pitch. thats when i put the 19pitch on her. with the 23 and 2 ppl it rocketed out of the hole. i never played around with any other props just the 19 and 23. i guarentee you wont find a cleaner starfire! truly beautiful boat!!

Thanks!

I just emailed him asking for some more pictures. How "small" did the interior feel? I'm a big dude, and my wife is pretty tall too, don't want to be cramped for space. We usually only have a couple others in the boat with us, so thinking we might still be interested in this, although its not really the best time...

typical closed bow interior. little light to get in the cuddy if you need to but for the most part its just as tight as my 18ft sportfire and even my 25ft sunsation. its funny how small they leave the room where everyone sits at on these "go fast" boats. i will tell you it has a awesome sun pad on the engine hatch and very functional swim platform!

Thanks a lot. I keep telling my wife that the sitting area of these boats is quite small...The guy hasn't gotten back with me yet, if he does, we may take a ride and look at it this weekend for giggles, I'll report back on my findings if we go look.

My boat  I'm really struggling with the sale, by far the coolest boat I've ever owned. Love it - but hate the draft. In relation to the earlier prop comments, I now run a 4 blade merc aluminum 20p for skiing, does awesome! Fastest prop I've ever tried on the boat was a laser 2 23p (didn't have GPS along - but the lie-o-meter said like 73, I was estimating maybe 66-67 real) I have a Ballistic that also runs close, but the better handling-cruising prop (the one most often on the boat) is a vented 14.25 x 24 Turbo (runs like a 23 though.) Still see 62-63 loaded. I get tons of nods on this boat wherever I go. I (used to) frequent the Grand River and gravel pits near allendale, this year can't even float it into the pits without sticking someone up on the nose to lift the arse a bit, and pushing like heck... :( Seeing 3' depts on the gauge in the marked channel at speed in many places on the river also terrifies me a bit...

It's that shallow this year? YIKES. I've never seen it that bad either, we were hoping to go there in a couple weeks to do the old tour again. Maybe we'll rethink. When we first bought our boat, we lived in Jenison, and our main launch was right there west of the pits on the river.

Thanks for repling to my emails, this sellers honestly, and helpfullness is bar none! I wish you the best with your sale, its a great looking boat, thats for sure!
