starflte speeds w/ 200hp.

Remember a cpl weeks ago i was looking at that flite with the 200 by me.....the guy told me 70 and SEVERAL people here told me no more like low 60s. so now people deviate?

Maybe more guys will post. I mentioned mine. Stock 1991 2.5L 200 EFI, 2" below, 13" setback, 25" Renegade, 6200 RPM, 67 MPH. I have repowered to a 225 Yamaha but will not have a chance to dial it in till next year. Hope to break 70 anyway.
Ross, You never told us your speed or setup!

Ross, when you have a newer (less hours) engine it WILL out perform an engine with more hours on it. It is actually making its rated HP.

As for the displacement thing, they flat out have more torque to carry the heavier boats. You could line up 3 stock 200's, 2.4, 2.5, and 3.0 on the same boat. Guess what one will run better on a Starflite in most cases?

Here is an example, try sticking a sooped up 1.6L engine from a Honda Civic with say 195 HP into an S-10 Blazer. Run it against the stock 4.3L 195 HP engine. Guess again.

You are right on for your engine.

is yours a 2.5? sorry i forgot:shakehead:

It was rated for that in 84. I am only running a 21P prop. I ran a 24 trophy for a day and saw just under 68. I am sure If I had more setback I would see 70. I am running 6 right now.

your mota is a '84? i didn't know that, and for the 6 i am asuming 60 what?
and that speed was w/ a 4 blade trophy? maybe i am doing something wrong:irked:
thanx for the help matt:bigthumb:

whats ur set-up?

6" setback. if I had 12 I am sure it would run better.

I can run 65 with a 21P. I suspect I am running 6900 rpm but my tack wont go above 6300 for some reason.

When I bought my Starliner new in '91, Checkmate published a top speed (seem to remember it was actually in their '91 brochure) of 64 MPH with the following:

1991 2.5 200 XRI
Mounted no additional setback
23 Turbo 2 Prop

That is exactly what I hit on the speedo, course no GPS then, only radar gun.

Returned prop to dealer cuz it sucked and went with 23 Hi-5. Dropped approx 3 MPH.

I'd say you are right there with that motor. My 200 is a 2.5L EFI which probably dynos around 215hp. Still only worth a couple of MPH. I actually have abandoned the quest for the next MPH. I have set my boat up for best cruise. I went down to 11" setback and tweak the height to give me the most MPH at 4500 RPM where I get the best fuel economy.
