Thru Hull Depth Finder

I just bought a Hawkeye dt1b Depthtrax on Amazon. Has anyone successful installed a thru hull depth finder? I have a 1992 Pulse 185 and need to avoid the Balsa core as it's supposed to be mounted on straight Fiberglass as wood etc. interferes with the signal. Any suggestions on the best place to mount for an optimal signal?

- The instructions are here on youtube
- The manufacturers site with instruction is at https://hawkeyeelectronics.com/products/depthtrax-1b-boat-mount-depth-finder
