Thru Hull Exhaust Tips

What do you recomend for Stainless Tips? I ordered some 12 inch SS tips (3in inlet -3.5outlet) from Summit Racing, with Stainless Tbolt clamps. I was just going to undo the hose clamp on the flapper and mount my tips on the flange, but now looking around on the net, I think this won't do. I was checking Corsa tips, and they connect to the rubber hose off elbow on the motor side of then transom, then go through the hull. I noticed they are all 4in, I believe mine are 3in. What do you recomend? The reason I ask, is that I am onver 200 miles from my boat, and cant check for myself. Thanks again.

What boat are these tips going on? What motor? I have never seen anything other than a 4" or 4 1/2" exhaust tip.

most engines run 4" hose - i think that started in the late 80's. You probably want to measure to be sure. do you have the engine serial #? if you do, post it and i'll see if the parts catologue shows anything.

It is a 1983 21ft Enchanter, with a 5.7/260. Last time I was with the boat, I quickly stuck a ruler across the diameter of the tip, and I'm pretty sure it was 3in. Right now it has the rubber flappers. I was checking out stainless marine, and like their tips. They have them in 3in. What do you all think?

you're probably right on the 3". it'll be 3 or 4 and your boat is old enough that it should be 3.

I have a 1984 Convincer, which came with a 454/330.

It also had 3 inch exhaust. So, I would bet you have a 3 inch exhaust also.

Thanks for the help. One style question for you guys-The tips I am looking at dont have internal flappers to keep back water from entering-think this is a necessary item, and I was thinking if so, putting trucker style external flappers on them-do you think this would be cheesy? (I must say I do love that style flapper, except on redneck pickups with stacks in the bed)

I put 3" Gil Stainless tips with the angle cut and internal flappers on my thru-hull. I'm very pleased with them and they were easy to install. You may want to take a look at them.
