where can I find out how much horse power my transom is rated for? Has anyone put a new Suzuki 140 on an old 1986 17ft checkmate?

no offense tom but who's gonna work on a sazuki , let alone get parts , and what about resale . it would look better with tall black and hansome on the back . if you really want sushi , there is yamaha, again , not trying to offend anyone.

tommy, you should have no trouble hanging a 140hp off the back. My 16' trimate is rated for a 150hp. I have a bit over 200hp hanging back there. (the cover reads 150hp

Suzuki makes various components for a number of different manufacturers. I think they even made some powerheads for Yamaha. And Yamaha are one of the better motors on the market IMO.

I'd take a Suzuki at the right price.
