I am sorry. I know it as been a VERY long time since I updated my saga. I hanged positions in late 2008 and I was working 80-100hr a week ever since. Here we are in 2011 and I change positions yet again and I have time again to enjoy life again. The boat was ompleted (for the most part) in the summer of 2008. Unfortunately it has only been in the water once a year since. After three years I still I items that need attention, of course. The work is never done.
To recap, I started a restoration/modification project to a 1980' Entertainer. The boat was in poor shape when we purchased it sight unseen, you got to love EBay. Ever single piece of wood was rotten. We replaced about 3 square feet of the core, all the stringers, transom, and transom braces. The entire interior is custom built and glassed in. We gel coated the boat top to bottom with custom blue flames on the nose. We preformed all work in this boat other than covering the rear bench seat, sun deck and the bow seats.
We purchased a 1998 Merc 200 EFI, CNC hydraulic Jack plate, hot foot, NFB steering helm, new gauges, and new Merc Controls. Everything in this boat is either Stainless or polished aluminum. I built the boat I always wanted. I only need to build new windshields and I am finished.
It runs 68mph on the GPS with a 23 pitch 4 blade Mazco prop. That is with a full tank, full cooler and both of us in it. It will just touch 70 mph with only me and ½ tank or less. I know there is more left but we can out run my Dad’s 1999 Champion 20ft with a 200 EFI, only by a few MPH. That is all I wanted to do.
The one thing I love about this boat is the way it turns. I have never had a boat that will turn as tight and hard as this Checkmate. It is a deadly tubing boat. I know, dad laid a whooping on me the first year. I guess it was payback for being faster than him. When you turn this boat it will layup to such a degree you can see all the interior of it while you are in the water. I am sure I can sling a tube a full 360 degrees around the boat, if I can find someone to hang on that long.
I have all the pictures on photobucket for now. I just paid my yearly $ today so I will get most of the good pictures posted to the forums as soon as Chris lets me know the check arrived.
I am glad to be back reading and enjoying all the info.
