Vibration at low speed only-2012 Merc 250 Optimax PROXS on Checkmate 2012 Pulsare 2100BR turning a 24"SS, 85 hrs. Its fine at other speeds? Any ideas?

I recently bought it. I've had other big Mercs & recalled them having the similar characteristics. However, I'd appreciate your help, if anyone has a definitive answer? Thanks

Look up any of the Mercury “Plus” props if you are not familiar with the PVS plugs. Such as a Trophy Plus prop

I'm not sure what prop it is. It's unmarked 24" 3 blade. No plugs...

If the prop is even slightly blowing out you can experience vibration at a particular RPM. I had this issue with our 2100 BR with a 225 Mercury. We run a 25 pitch Trophy Plus. Found with the right combination of PVS plugs we can do all of the skiing and tubing, boat planes in under 2 seconds, and can top out in the low 70 mph range.

I recommend a Trophy Plus 25 pitch for you boat. Buy it new so it is exactly how the engineers at Mercury intended. If you go that route, I can help you with the PVS plug combination. Send me a PM if you buy the new prop. There are others on this forum that can help you as well.

They were slightly. I sent it out to have it rebalanced. I'm probably looking into a new prop. I just bought it & put it in the lake.

Here you go!

Does the prop have a solid hub with the 3 delrin snubber strips? If they are worn, you will get prop rattle at low rpm, and it will smooth out at higher rpm. You can buy new strips from Mercury. If it is not the solid hub, the hub insert might be worn causing the same issue.

Thanks Glenn. I'll try taking the prop off & having a look? In the meantime, I gather running it like this will cause damage to the shaft?
Many thanks.
Brent

How many holes are in the prop going around the circumference on the gear case side? I see one in the picture. Are there more? And if there are more, are they evenly spaced around the circumference?
