What carb to use

Hello I have a holley carb on my 350 merc vision checkmate, I just picked up a edlebrock 1409 carb should I switch them out, been having trouble tuning my Holley

I always liked Holley carbs but I know some don't and their much easyer
for me to work on. Could just be a blown power valve which is pretty
common in Holleys and you never will get it tuned until its replaced.
Also how did you narrow your problem to the carb. Have you already
done a complete tune up like plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor cap, timing,
and points if it still has points. Only asking this because I have seen a lot
people think they had carb problems when it was one or all the others
I listed.

Yes I have done all that you have listed except the timing, is that something I should look at? also how hard is it to work on the power valve?

The power valve screws in to the metering block which is located between
the float bowl and the main carb body. Its about the size of a quarter.
Don't know what carb you have but I would guess ether a 600 or 650 so
it probably only has one. Some of the bigger carbs have two.
The power valves have different numbers depending on the application.
Im not saying this is your problem but if you have had good luck with this
carb until now its worth a try. Power valves don't cost much at all.
Look up Holleys web site or just Holley power valves and theirs a lot of info
to look through that can explain this better than I can.

thank you for the help should I check my timing also or would you go to the power valve, also how can you tell if the power valve is bad?
