I am running a 250 ProXs and the motor likes and needs a strong battery to run correctly. What is the FORUM'S opinion of the "BEST" Marine battery?

Advise please!!!!

Your typical battery would be a marine Group 24 (The group specs the dimensions L x W x H of the battery).

Optima batteries are high in Cranking and Cold Cranking Amps. Much more then most. My question would be what is the minimum the motor requires for Cranking and Cold Cranking Amps?

I am lost on what you consider a "strong" battery.

I have found in the maintenance manual for 250 pro xs the need for 800 Min - 1000 Max Cold Cranking Amps. It also states you cannot use a deep cycle battery. I did not see a cranking amp requirement. Is this true for your year motor?

Also, I have heard good and bad about optimax batteries. So someone would have to chime in. I just go with the cranking amps I need and best bang for the buck with warranty, cost, etc.

After the experience I have had with Optima's in my old truck, I will never buy one again. That is a lot of coin for a battery that wouldn't hold a charge in less than a year of use. Went back to a cheap Walmart battery and got 5 years with no changes to the truck. I would spend the money going to an AGM battery versus the orbital cell. I have had good luck with the marine batteries from Advanced Auto. Seems most lead-acid batteries last about the same anymore. I would just find the biggest cranking amps I could find or add a second battery to the system. That would double the cranking amps and reserve capacity right there.

After years of bad luck with boat batteries, I now stick to Diehard, Napa Gold, and Interstate batteries for my boats.

I've never owned an Optima, but my friends and relatives that have owned them have not been impressed. My neighbors Z06 almost burnt down when the Optima went Chernobyl on him for no apparent reason.

I can't speak for ob use but have had great success from ac delco batteries. Also had a Walmart special in a truck that lasted years with no issues.

I also rock the Walmarts. Had Interstates but they where 5 yrs old so I took them out just for maintence. Never had a problem with either but I keep a maintainer on my batterys when not useing.
