What kind of speed to expect?

I have 98 251 convinsor with a 310efi that runs 60mph on gps.I have A 502 That I should have done in A couple of weeks That should be around 500 hp .I was wondering If anyone had A simular combo .Im thinking somewere around 69-72.

DAVE my 88 picked up about6-7 on the speedo for what its worth going from the 365hp mag ,to a built aprox 500 hp . the faster it went , the better it handled . 14 hours later , rod throgh the block w/wife driving . the difference between men and boys is how they react when they break their toys !!!!!!!

I allways keep the stock power on hand.I did with my 22 Cmate and I will with this one.The guy bought everything when I sold her.What did your 25 run with 500hp?

itshowed 70 on a medalion speedo ,same as dave and margrets yellow one up at the lake . showed 77 with the built motor. the built motor was not an expensive motor , i mean no good parts , cam , some head work , b.g carb.
 
I have the 1999 HP500 convincor 251. I see the top speed at 77 on the GPS. This is with a XR drive and the IMCO shorty lower. No other mods.
 
hey check ,that would be pretty consistant . we always thought those old medallion speedos were pretty close . when i add gps to my 28 i'm going to keep the speedo (mercury's quicksilver junk) just in case my ego needs a boost.
 
Stock speedos's are great for entertainmnet puposes. I was running on Seneca lake and some guy in a baja 25 Outlaw said he was running the same speeds as me. He had the 496HO, I had the HP500 with the faster Hull. I just laughed at him and saw him slowly disapearing as I blew past him, Speedo my ass.
 
i'm going to remount the speedo in front of the passenger (ha , won't they be impressed) when the gps goes in ..
 
you guys continue to slay me ! reality bites sometimes .....maybe i should put the gps in front of my wife and keep the speedo in front of me .then everyone will be happy ,,just kidding ! so is everyone using digital gps or analog ?can you see the digital in the sun ? i would think a fraction of a mph here or there would be an acomplishment as you try to dial it in ....no one that i hang with is using gps speedos , hand helds to find their way in the dark etc...ithink there is going to be some dissappointed friends when we find what we're really running.
 
The hand held GPS work great. Most have a max speed recall so you don't have to watch it all the time. When I first bought my boat the prior owner said the boat would run about 80. I figured that to be about right 175hp on a 16ft boat. Well never got to run that motor. steped it to a 200+ and ran the boat. Speedo was reading 78mph. Then I got a hold of the great humbling device know as a GPS. 69mph. Tryed everthing with the last set up to break 70 but never got there. Let the mods begin. It will go faster, oh yea.
 
you guys amaze me..... why didn't i think of that ? then i could find my way in the dark easier too !!!!! RISENSHINE !!!
 
I have had A GArmin 12 for 6 years.The newer units are much easier to use.They work well in the dark too

I have a cheep garmin e-trex. All I needed was the speed. Water proof so when I do my fist top speed run and it does not read the speed I am looking for and I throw it overboard my son can go get it.

175 ... don't throw the speedo out . mine has kept me in the 70's for years .left me $$$$$ for beer ! "i spent all my $$$on beer babes and boats ,the rest i wasted " !!! RISENSHINE !
 
Hey guys, thank you for this discussion on speedos. My speedo on my (96)242 convinsor reads 64 at top speed. I am running a 385. Sounds like a GPS is in order to see what I am really doing.
