What works, what doesent?
I am currently using Zaino on all the cars and boats. Easy to use both on and off. Shines like nothing I have ever seen. I think I have tried most. I thought it was a hobbie there for awhlie. I think at one time I had over 20 bottles of have used wax just laying around waiting for the next great invention to hit the market.

So let's hear it. What are you using?

I own a detailing and restoration business and do quite of bit of boats. Boats are not as hard to take care of as everyone thinks! I can't give away all of my secrets, that is why I am in business, but I will tell you the most important things. First, NEVER, I mean NEVER, use car wax on a boat! It will destroy your finsh. Have you ever seen a white boat that is pretty new and has a yellow tint to it? Cause, Car wax. The reason is gel coat needs to breath. It is a porous material and the charictaristics will change when sealed. Only use products that are made for fiberglass I never use wax, I only use a high quality polish that blocks U.V. Rays. I have tried literally hundres of products and the best that I have found is a product called Race Glaze. You can use this in the sun and still come off easy. The trick with anything you use is apply it thin, very thin. More does Not mean better. Rick is in the process of becoming a distributor for Race Glace, you might want to get price from him, I am not a dealer for the product, I just use it I have salespeople come into my shop all of the time trying to sell me miracle products and say they are fiberglass safe. They consider fiberglass being a Corvette, big difference between the Vette and boats. If you want to e-mail me personally with more specific questions, I will answer them privately, because I do have secrets that I do not want to let out in my area and ultimately lose business. The key to keeping your boat shine is to wash it once a week and polish at least to deck once a month and the hull at least one a season. I had th 85 Diplomat that was pictured on the forum, that gel coat is origonal. It looked nothing like that when I bought it, but with the right tools, a boat that size can have the shine brough back in a days time. Maybe Chris can post a pic in the section where the readers boats are. Chris, if you need another pic, let me know.
My e-mail is fischerbill@msn.com
There is alot of repairs that can be done to scratches without ever picking up gel coat and a spray gun. Checkmates' gel coat is about 22-24 mils thick, so there is alot to work with.

Currently using either 3M or Starbright boat fiberglass products. What do you think of those Bill??

3-M makes a very good product, but expensive, Race glaze takes half the effort and give better finish. I can buy 3-M at wholesale and it is still more expensive than Retail for Race Glaze. Starbrite... Nightmare to use on dark colored boats and does not last under moderate to harsh conditions which is what we all encounter.
Just my opinion though

I've never heard of it. Can I buy it at Autozone or NAPA?

Yes, it is great for fiberglass, it was derrived for the marine and aircraft industry. The company is from Lannon, WI. I believe there web site is raceglaze.com and they can tell you where to by it where you live. Where I live it can be purchased in automotive paint supply stores or place that sell fiberglass repair supplies. Also Rick at Bayview is a dealer for them. Unfortunetely, I do not get it at wholesale, so it is not cost effective for me to get you some and ship it to you. When i lived out in Seattle, the company put in in touch with the local sales rep and I bought it from him because it was not in stores out there yet, now I just by it from Race glaze, but I di not buy enough from them to get a discount. With this stuff a little goes a LONN way. You could do ayour 21 Pulsare 10 times with one bottle of polish. There web site tells all about them, I like all of there compounds, polishes, and quick spray polish.

I do not know anything about this company, but mr-shine.com has a free shipping on Race GLaze products and packages put together. The gloss highlighter is what I meant by quick polish, that stuff is awesome for water spots, beer spills, dust, ect...

I forgot something in my post. My boat has been painted with basecoat/clearcoat. So it has to be treated like a car.
I am going to look at race glaze. How does it work on automotive paint?

Race Glaze is the only product I use on my truck. the pic that was posted by Chris of the Diplomat from the back shows a Pewter GMC off to the right, that is mine and a little over a year old and shines BETTER than the day I brought her home new!

I have been using Garys' Boat wax. Works good for me. Or maybe I just don't any better. It seems to be the wax of choice around here. Most guys use it.

I know the feeling, I WASTE more money in trying things. Because I am a small business, I do not get too many free samples.
What it comes down to is use what you happen to like, I guess that is why Baja sells so many boats, we can't change everybodies mind!
By the way...
HAPPY HOLIDAY TO EVERYONE AND THERE FAMILIES AND MAY THAT HARD WATER GO AWAY QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!

Race Glaze is an awesome product for boats, cars, bikes, darn near anything. I've personally been using this on my vehicles/boats, etc, for about 12 years, even my trail Jeep. I'm in the process of becoming a dealer for this product and Rolite. Rolite www.aircraftpolish.com is another great product, Sea Breeze is their marine division, Rolite aviation division. Maguiers and 3M are the same, great products though,if you look at the bottles, even the part # is the same. I believe Maguiers makes the polish for 3m, usualy with 3m, they make everything for everybody. Hope everyones holiday was great! Rick

For you guys with older boats. I've found a couple ways to restore your faded gelcoat that work for me. 1. wet sand it with the right ultra fine paper(600,1000,1500 or 2000 grit). Then machine buff it with rubbing compound. Next buff it with a polishing compound. You then glaze/wax it.2.If your still not happy you'd be amazed what a couple coats of a high quality clear paint would do!
