Whats the deal with MI water speed limits?

Don't know if its been covered before, but I was talking to a guy that lives on the Coldwater lake chain yesterday... I brought up the fact that they have a 55mph speed limit on that lake (from what I can remember)... so it goes on and he tried to tell me that a speeding tickit on the water shows up on you're license???? WTF????

I drive a truck for a living and I don't need any tickets showing up on my license.

Is this right or was he just blowing smoke? Also heard that a noise violation ticket costs about 30 or so dollars? I don't know if this is a lake by lake thing? Can someone fill me in?

I was thinking about making a trip up north somtime this year or the next (coldwater lakes, maybe even torch and the saganaw...) Don't feel like making the trip and finding out the hard way...

There is a 55 mph speed limit on all inland lakes and waterways in michigan (except Lake Cadillac....Four Winns testing grounds) and yes the water pigs give you a real speeding ticket like in a car. It sucks. As soon as you hit the Saginaw Bay or the Great lakes, the only limit is how far your throttle can go. There are no limits on the big waters.

ok heres the deal.. its 55 on all inland lake and waterways, execpt 1 mile offshore...lake huron, michigan etc...

i know this for a fact because i recieved a ticket for breaking this speed limit on the saginaw river in the predictor..

and from what i gathered it does not go on your drivers licence , i spent 4 hours im court and and lost a half a days wages over the whole ordeal..

Now, now, I wouldnt worry about it at all. There is a speed limit of 55 on the Saginaw River, but it is normally not enforced. The speed limit should not be a reason to stay away from the River. Mr.Buss, myself and a Baja ran from Bay City to Saginaw last evening wide open covering maybe 8 miles or so, with no worries, was LOTS of fun.

Anyone ever venture south to the Maumee river here in NW Ohio? Its pretty nice running- bout 20 or so miles of water to play on(goes from Grand Rapids past Napoleon a ways).
