Aqua-Buff Overspray/Best UV Protectant?

85Predictor

Member
Both the Aqua-Buff and the polisher arrived this week.
Bought the polisher from Harbor Frieght $39.00 1000-3000 rpm.
So far I am very pleased with how this product works.
The silver trim is actually looking like silver instead of gold!
Although not recommended, I tried using the foam pad.
It seems to do a good job and is flexible for use around
all of the ridges.

The overspray seems to be a problem.
Has anyone else had problems wiping the overspray off?
Maybe I let it sit too long. In some areas I had to use
Turtle Wax polishing compound by hand to get it off.

Short of a cover, what would be the best UV Protectant/Polish?

Thanks!

For the splatter spray wet it down and wash off with warm soap and water, the Aqua-Buff is water based so it can be cleaned up with water. When it dries it hard as hell to get off, keep the garden hose handy and wash it down as soon as your done.
For wax I prefer Yellow Wax, It takes some elbow grease but holds up well and really shines. Like it said on the instructions, use a wax with a high Carnuba content.
Aqua-Buff works awsome, Its very aggresive so it will cut through the dead gelcoat well. Use plenty of water and it will perfomr better but boy does it make a mess.

For future wax jobs, stay away from automotive waxes. They cause fiberglass boats to yellow. I like Star Bright Marine polish with Teflon and UV protectant. Get it at wallyworld. Any marine grade polish from 3M or Star Bright or Meguires should work well, just make sure they claim UV protectants in the ingredients.

Star Brite Marine Polish...

I'm with JW on the Star Brite with Teflon Marine polish, I have been using it on my boats and my cars for years. Easy to go on and easy to take off and lasts a long time.

have been using starbrite with teflon for yrs i agree with those guys 100 percent it is also easy to work with considering you are talking about fiberglass. the other thing you gotta remeber is wax it or posish her more than once a yr, especially if your boat is always in sunlight. cover the boat when it isnt used.
save yourself some work

good luck

Polisher

Is this the one you bought?

I'm trying to figure out if I want to Aquabuff the top of my Starflite or have someone else do it.

Yes, this is the one I bought.
For the price, it does a good job.
I made the mistake of hitting the chuck locking
button while it was running. (Operator Headspace)
I stripped a couple of teeth on a gear.

Also, I found a new product last Summer put out by Turtle Wax.
It is a liquid rubbing compund. I used it by hand and seemed to work well.

Hope this helps!!

This is what Aqua Buff will do for you. The Checkmate i bought earlier this year has never seen a coat of wax since it was new. So after alot of reading, i bought the 1000 and 2000. I also bought a buffer from northern tools. After I buffed the boat out i used a premuim wax. The results made a believer out of me.
