Model Specific Forums?

Hi Gang,

I was pondering the idea of creating some model specific categories. I'm always looking for ways to make the site the very best Checkmate resource it can be for the community.

The idea would be that I would set these forums up similar to how we have the chapter categories. So what we would have is one main forum on the front page with the sub-forum links displayed in the description area.

I was wondering what you think of the idea?

Good idea? Bad idea?

If you think we should do this, do you have any suggestions on whether we should just set up product line specific forums or whether we do exact model forums. As in "Pulsare Models" or a forum for 2100 Pulsare a forum for the 1850 Pulsare etc.

Your feedback would be appreciated. :)

I cant speak for the o/b guys or the smaller mates, but I would just do ZT in one and Convincor in one.. Or put the Convincor and ZT in the same and call it the Deep V

kind of a cool idea, but maybe a bit much, I would be down with something like that broken down a bit, maybe my boats of similar size/ hull design.

Thanks for striving to make this site even better Chris

I like the idea, since if I do a search now for a Persuader 219, then it drops the 219, and I get everything Persuader.

But, thats going to be a lot of sections.

Well it's easy to set up forums around the various lines now, as currently there are discernable lines of boats. Pulsare models, Convincor and ZT models. Where it gets tougher, is trying to organize earlier eras, like in the 80's where every boat had a unique name.

I guess the logic and goal here is to make it easier for people to information, or other owners with the same model as them-self.

i guess if you are a checkmate enthusiast you should know the 80's models(like the starflite in my case) would now be in the same category as the pulsare????? but about the other models .......... if you are on this site -you are a checkmate fan??????? right?????? i think it's a great idea:thumb:

i personally don't think i would add that i don't think it would be necessary. i do a search if i need something more specific but more just read through a little bit of everything

Well it seemed like people poo-poo'd the idea. Not sure why really, it wasn't like I was proposing to take something away, more like adding, expanding and making things easier to find.

What I had been thinking I would do, is to move the set up forum threads into model specific forums. That way members could post specific set up info on each model and it would also be easier to find and compare set up info on specific models. Additionally anything related to a specific model could also go into the dedicated forum as well.

As for the specific model forums, I was just going to add those as people requested them.

Chris, I LOVE the idea!!! I know this is a last years post, but it's an awesome idea still! I spend alot of time searching ( and waiting 45 seconds between searches......) just to get MODEL specific info..... to me this seems like a no-brainer! EVERYTHING there is NOW- PLUS the addition of model specific info- rigging, set-ups, props, etc....just seems to be an obvious next step for the site......My $.02
Thanx for even HAVING an awesome site for all of us Checkheads to play!!!! Your the man!

Yeah, I thought it was a good idea at the time too. Part of the logic behind the idea, was that many members were trying to do things like compare best set up numbers by model as just one example. And the way it is now, we've got one set up forum with all the models jumbled within it. So what I had planned on doing, was creating forums for specific models by request for people. If you look at what I've done with brands over on Endless Boating, that was basically the imputus for what I was going to do here, except it would have been by model.

But when we discussed this, I got a lot of feedback much through PM's and there were many comments about eliminating and merging forums to reduce the amount we have, as many think/thought there were already too many. So I more or less figured I'd just leave things as they were, given the feedback.

The other issue or problem with the idea, is that way too many people seem to stick everything in the main forum, instead of using the proper forum. The logic seems to be they "feel" they will get more people viewing their thread that way. But really what it does is just clutter up the main forum and create work as I then have to start moving things into the proper place. And the truth is that I don't think that sticking things in main works better, I think it actually does the opposite. The main reason being, that there are members that enjoy reading or helping with particular topics and they wont find them if they're not where they're supposed to be.

Having said all that, we can always revisit the idea if there is support for it. What I would suggest, is that y'all look at the brand section of Endless Boating to see what the basic idea would look like. The only difference we would do here, would be that we would most likely create sub-forums within each model, further breaking down the topics into things like setups etc.
