"Wanted" 29-30 pitch prop

All I can tell you is your engine is to high.

Answer me this. With your jack plate all of the way down, How many inches of length do you have between the bottom of the V of your hull and the prop shaft of your engine?

Nice prop.. I need to check a couple of things on the set-up and tax check in coming in ,in about 2 weeks if you still have it then I'll get a hold of you ( but don't hold it if you need to move it thanks )

dont waste your money on a prop you cant spend

im not trying to cut anyone out of a sale. but
you have some other issues such as slip.
everyone has been pretty much right on you have other issues.
play with your setup and the lower pitch props you have till you get the moter and trim right.

I agree, the engine must be mounted waaaaaaaay to high to be throwing that kind of rooster. Bring it down so the cav. plate is 2" above the bottom of the boat running a straight edge down the bottom and out the back to the engine. You should get some bite there and then do your testing.

Like I said...I don't know anything about outboards and 'rooster tails', but if everyone is telling you that you got some other problem,......you probably do. The prop isn't going anywhere...it's not advertised or anything, just sitting in the closet. It's Brand New, except for the 10 min I ran it and swapped it out in the water 'cause it didn't work on my 251 Convincor.

In this pic your engine appears to be at 0 trim. (good):D

in this pic you appear to have 400 pounds in the bow. (bad):shakehead:

next time you are able, take a yard stick or straight edge and run it along the bottom aft of the hull. let it poke out the back and touch the front of the lower unit.

how many inches is it above or below the tip of the nose cone?

We need to know this before we go any further. :bigthumb:

If your tach is right you should be running a 17" pitch if your slip is 10%. My guess would be your tach is wrong. I've never heard of that kind of slip unless you're running it on the trailer! Make sure they setting on the back of the tach is set on the 12 pole setting. My twin 21ft Liberator runs 102 at 7700 with 28" props and the same gears as yours.

what was the diamater of the prop you were running that you got those high rpms and high slip.

last prop I tried was a Mazco 28 pitch Big ear prop ( chopper style very large prop ) 7,500-7,700 rpm 58 on gps and I tried the motor all the way up and all the way down and in between ( someone asked how low my prop shaft is when the jack plate is all the way down, it is 9 inches below the V in the hull. ) I have tried 23 pitch - 9,500, 24-8,900, 26 - 8,500, 27/28 - 7,700 - 7,500 - 58mph on GPS ( was told that I have a 1.87 gear but... I think it's a 2.1 gear in it ) Bob's Nose Cone can't make that much of a affect on it.

No way it can be anything but a wrong tach reading. Look at the back of your tach for the setting. Do you realize what that motor would sound like at 7500+ rpm?

Well illmattic in tha pic ( I did 2 things wrong 1st the Driver ie me weighed 350 lbs now I'm 250, 2nd a friend thought that I needed ballist in the nose (( he was a dumbazz )) I had 70 lb sand bag in the nose and my 2 anchor 40 lbs were in the front seat so......... this year I took the anchors out and right after that pic illmattic I tossed the sand bag ashore. ( and the motor had a problem and lost 2 cyliners that yr ) ( but I built an brand new power head this last summer ) :) ** at the lowest setting on the jack-plate the tip of the nose cone is 9 in from the tip of the V in the bottom of the boat ** I'm going to do a check on the gears next ** I do apreciate any and all Advice THANK YOU ALL for trying to help figure out where I'm WRONG.. I'm not perfect and I try to learn from my mistakes ;)

Wildman I double checked the tach with a timing light with a tach in it......... The measurement everyone is asking for from the V of the boat bottom to the tip of the nose cone is 9 inches ;) ** I have to double check the gears I fear I have a 2.1 ratio -- was told when I bought it it was a 1.87

It sounds real loud * screaming -- only no more than 2 min bursts * so I didn't blow it my Reed set has no restrictors on them ( got them off a guy that has a hopped up motor , for competition Bass fishing tourniments ), they are steel not nylon Reeds

Something doesn't make any sense....

A 23P at 9500 RPM with a speed of 58MPH is around 44% slip.

If you are doing over 45MPH in that picture, then my guess is that the boat has about 500lbs of water saturated in the wood.

A 16' boat with a fresh 2.4 on the back should barely be in the water when you are trimmed out.

Have you inspected the boat for water damage. Is this model full of foam like many other models?

Good luck.

One other suggestion...

Unless you have a really sick motor, or an endless income for new powerheads, I would lay off of the 9,500 RPM runs.:eyecrazy:

I have learned the hard way that "short bursts", can fry a motor at that RPM quite easily. I would hate to see you fry her before you get it dialed in!:yell:

Again, good luck!
