What does it take for Checkmate to respond??

I hate doing this, I really do. I have been faithful to the Checkmate brand, a supporter and loyal. I am in sales, customers are my livelyhood, I take care of them big or small. Checkmate does not seem to be doing this...as of late.

I have called Checkmate multiple times, speaking with people on 5 different occasions trying to get a price quote for the vinyl replacement cover on my engine hatch. Each time I am told that the person in charge of the "restoration dept." is out, busy or just can't get to the phone. "He will get right back to me though". I have tried since November to get this person to call me back so I can keep my Checkmate looking factory new with no success. Tell me, is the performance boat industry doing that well that you have no time to call back your loyal customers? Did your new "restoration" program take off to the point you can not meet the demand? I have met other boat manufacturers in the last few years like Sunsation and Sutphen and the owners knew how to treat customers and potential customers alike. I am not feeling it with Checkmate.....why???

How do you know if I "was" trying to get my Checkmate to look new again, to sell it and potentially buy a new Checkmate? You can call me anytime, there are at least 3 people at Checkmate that have my number.....

Sorry to hear about this... I sure hope this isn't a common occurance.

I've had good luck when I've called, but that was like 3+years ago....

Scott,
I know my dealing with checkmate have been great with them coming through every time. My dealings are they go way beyond what other places are on the customer support. I know there is several checkmate guys on here daily and they will see this. I know this is unlike them from other accounts so hopefully you get in contact with them soon so they can get your interior together.

I know, and it bothers me that I had to be that guy on the forums b*tching. Customer service years past was awesome...one of the reasons I had been proud saying I was a Checkmate owner....

Maybe I am just that guy that fell through the cracks; but I have tried over 5 times to get in touch with someone...boating season is here and my hatch does not meet my standards.

HOWEVER, with the economy in the condition it is, gas prices through the roof...I can't see any boat company that would let anyone fall through the cracks...the quick wins do not sustain a business, the consistent ones do. Ask Reggie....

Unless something has changed...

Call Mike Combs and give him your HIN and he should be able to look after you.

Mate usually have the build sheets on file, so they can pull them and see the particulars on your hull.

To your point about the industry, yeah, it's in sad shape right now. Many companies are out of business and most have had to make drastic cutbacks until things pick up.

Whether that's why Mate has been a little tardy in getting back to you or not, isn't for me to say - but let's say it wouldn't surprise me as they're (Mate) not immune to the slow down in the marine industry.

I agree that no one should fall through cracks, but sometimes it happens. I know I talked to Kip a month ago and he was great help. He even emailed me some info over within a few minutes.

Who is in charge of the resto work up there? I have to say, I will go through checkmate on my next interior as their work is great and cheaper than I payed for mine.

I don't know who is doing the restoration work, but in the past Mike arranged and looked after parts and service etc.

I'm not really sure if a Sunpad would actually fall into the care of the restoration department or not as it's just vinyl.

But whatever the case is now, in the past, Mike used to look after getting new skins or seats done.

I wanted Checkmate to provide me with the cover to see how the replacement program was. My plan was to do the hatch, see the replacement quality and then do the rest of the boat. My thought was a aftermarket upholstery place could not match specs of the builder. Actually, if all went well, I planned on having a windscreen made as well. I wanted to keep this boat another 2 years and then move up to a 30+.

The last person I spoke with (management level) said that this was the busy season, everyone wanted to get their boat looking new and the wait lists were getting long. I explained that I have been trying since November to get in touch with someone...it obviously didnt matter.

I appreciate the site, the admins and the people here. I am a proud BOM member....please understand, this was a last ditch effort.

I ordered a complete seat of seat covers from Mike about two weeks ago. They told me it would be about 6 weeks before they could start them since new boats have priority. I am completely good with that. They also sent me some other parts that I had a week later.

If you are having trouble, call and ask for Mike. He is the one that will take care of you.

I ordered a complete interior (front buckets and rear bench) approx 4 weeks ago, Mike said they should be ready for shipment in 4 weeks.
I was number 3 on the list at the time. I also ordered new "T" bolts
for my windshield (told him no rush) and they arrived 5 days later.

Like YF88 said, they are very helpfull and extremely friendly to their
customer base. Try calling and ask for Mike.

I honestly cannot believe this thread has gone on. I have called Checkmate several times, each time I talked to VERY friendly people who took care of everything I needed.

If you have an older boat Mike will go out of his way to help.

I dont buy it, this thread shoud be deleted, maybe this guy is looking for a hand out, wants a cover that his wife or budget wont let him buy. Prove me wrong, everyone else has nothing but good things to say.

Do not respond unless you have facts to back it up, Thanks.

Sounds like a rare occurance.

In my experience, Mike is always helpful and on the ball when it comes to parts. After you order your stuff, sometimes it's hard to get rid of him because he likes to talk boats with ya...."How fast you got that thing running", "What prop do your run", "You should try this". Very enthusiastic about boats.

Kip and all of them down there (yes even the ex-baja people) are great to deal with....will take whatever probelm your having and find a solution.

Yup, I've had the same experience (not that I mind, I might actually learn something). Mike is the man when it comes to parts for these boats, and when I placed an order I was impressed with how quickly it showed up on my porch.

Great Service

I replaced my interior last year with all new pieces from checkmate...they did a great job on my order...was a small problem with the side pieces but I sent them back and the new ones were sent right back to me...I have never done any interior work before so I had lots of questions, Mike and Linda answered all my questions...I saved alot of money and I get lots of compliments on my new interior. Check out the pics I posted...email me if you have any questions alliedtf1@comcast.net

I called a few hours ago to order new rubrail insert - amazing that they still have this stuf for a 20 year old boat... Said it should be shipped Monday.

I also got a full interior a year or so ago. it was painless, although I did have to refit a few things since I had slightly modified some dimensions when I put the boat back together. still wasn't bad at all...

What facts do you want? I called numerous times and was told I would get a call back, I haven't. I am absolutely not looking for a hand out nor had anything bad to say other than I am not getting anywhere. I have a great reputation in the boating forums, I am on Speedwake primarily. I did not come on here bashing the brand, as a matter of fact I opened with my past loyalty to Checkmate. I do not think it is right that I need to try this hard to spend my money, do you? I still have not received a call nor an email and I know there are people that watch the forums from Checkmate. As I said, I may have been the one that fell through the crack; but I have been trying since November with no success. I left my name openly in this forum and there are a few people at Checkmate that I have left my name and multiple numbers to reach me at. I don't understand it.
I have not, nor will say that anyone I did talk to on the phone was unfriendly, they always have been very nice and seemed to be on the ball. I appreciate that and it speaks to some degree about service. The fact is, I have not been able to get a call back from the person that can take care of me.
To respond to your other "statements", go ahead and delete the post. I do not appreciate your shallow retorts and think that you are out of line. I simply want a cover for my sun-pad, preferably from the company that made my boat.

Have you tried calling Mike directly?

As others have posted, he's really good and is usually the person who co-ordinates this type of thing anyways.

-Chris

I don't know if I'd wait around for them to call back....manufacturer's typically aren't real good at "calling back"....keep trying Mike until you get ahold of him. Don't be afraid to re-call him again, he isn't going to care....once you get him on the phone he will take care of you.
