propshaft movement

Well-known member
how much movement is acceptable. ie: grab the prop like your gonna remove it and the prop shaft moves in and out of the housing? i know some is normal but is there a measurement i need to look for?

I just checked my 200 Johnson and the prop shaft has .031" in and out play.
I used a dial indicator so the measurement is accurate. I don't know what is considered respectable, I will have to check my OMC manual. The manual is at home so I will check it tonight and let you know what the
fishn mota guru's have to say.

i'll put a dial indicator on mine and check it but it seems more than that for sure!!

If it is a Mercury 1/8 -1/4" seems normalish. They all have some end play and there is no factory measurement for it.
