hi i have a checkmate pulse 18-6 ft and powered by a jhonson GT 150 im only getting 54 mph with a 24p raker how fast should i be able to go and what rpm i have a jackplate and raised it 2 more inches going to try tues.:brickwall:

My Guess would be high 50's with your setup. I know a 186 with a merc 185 runs 59-60 on GPS on a perfect day.

basicly, you need to figure out how fast you want to go. The current setup you have is pretty much maxed out.there may be a mile perhour or two left there somewhere, But the very basics for speed are prop pitch + rpms, If you can spin a 24 at 6000 rpm you should be getting up to the mid to 60s. but I don't think a 150 has enough HP to swing that prop on a boat as heavy as a pulse. Its a great boat and built to take punishment, but it wont be the fastest, I have one with a mildly modded merc 225 with a 23p prop and I can just barely get 65mph out of it at 62-300rpm.

it is a 150 gt i`m only turning like 4800 rpms now i thought boat would be faster i knew i should of bought a hydrostream

You will probably ALWAYS get your ass kicked by Hydrostreams- there lighter, thus and faster with the same HP. Just on a side note- I too have a jack plate on my Enchanter- ( have been testing n tuning on a seperate thread) and have been "jacking" my motor up every trip out- but found ( when I decided to try the opposite of what was NOT working ) that when I dropped it back down ( at lower speeds anyhow- where I'm still at...for now) I actually gained speed! I went from a 52mph top speed to start- then after a few jacking sessions ( Is this a porno?!?!?!?LOL!) I lost speed and control - then on a whim, decided to try DOWN- had nothing to lose- low and behold- went
instantly went back up! gained 2mph weny up to 54mph- now I also had some brain fart issues to overcome ( see thread for more info...) but I anticipate a nice gain on my next trip out- and may have to jack her back up some as I continue my testing..... Just my $.02 . Good luck!

Your prop is a little to steep. you are lugging the motor, can you get your hands on a 22 pitch? Ill bet you will see a much better hole shot and probably the same or better top end if you can get those rpms up to where they should be.5900 or so you could see about 62-63 mph with a 22 pitch.
Where are you running in RI? fresh water?
There is a hydrostream forsale near me on J.P. that the guy claimes does 90+. Maybe you should check it out. It was on RI craigslist for a while.

Well what year is the 150 and keep in mind on old 150 would push a 17.5ft bassboat to 70 with a light tourn. load. I don't know what your boat has in it but it should be running in the mid 60's. You will need to get the rpms up into the 52-5400 range and you should be running a 22 to 24 pitch prop

The only way that combo will run mid 60's is down the interstate behind the truck.

My 186 pulse stock 200 Merc with a 10" jackplate and a 4 blade turning point classic runs 70 GPS all day. Chine walks like a Mother...

What RPM, gear ratio and prop pitch are you running? sounds like you hit a good set up to be running 70 mph w/ a stock 200.
I noticed at about 65 It starts to get Light and a little swirly with a 23 laser II no JP but nothing to be nervous about. My goal for this year was getting to 70+.

thanks my boat is empty i`m going to try a 23 pitch cleaver prop and see what i get , if i don`t get good results i`m going to look into getting a 250 i will beat this hydro

From some research I was reading the 91' and earlier Pulses are about 300 lbs lighter than the 92 and newer models ? Is this true ? If so, the older Pulses should be a few MPH faster with similar setups ? What do you think is the optimum setback for the Pulse ? I was looking at jzueleger's 91' Pulse. I'd like to throw a 225 Promax on the back. I'm not sure the big differences in the Pulse and Pulsare hulls but I had a 2000 Pulsare BR which weighed in at a hefty 1375 lbs. with a stock 3.0 L(heavier than the 2.5's) 225 and 12"-13" setback I could hit 73+ mph on GPS. Thinking out loud ............if the Pulse only weighs 1100 lbs. and use similar setback with a lighter 225 I was thinking speeds of upper 70's to possibly 80. On my Pulsare it would chine walk something fierce if the drive was located well below pad. I set up with 15 1/2" of setback and ran 3/4" - 1" ABOVE pad and chine walk was greatly reduced. I know with less setback you won't be able to run nearly as high. You'd more than likely need some sort of a low water pickup to raise the lower to a great height setup. A nice set of solid mounts and some tight steering will help a bunch too !

Keep me posted on any Pulse/Pulsare hull differences. I'm learning too.

three blade or four blade?

four blade you can trim higher without gettin squirlley. i tried a 23 pitch three blade and 23 pitch 4 blade on my old enchanter and the three blade was kinda scary but the four blade it rode like a caddilac

dont get a cleaver. get yourself a chopper youll get more bow lift.

btw your not gonna beat that hydrostream.. not dissin on checkmate at all but the hydrostream has a much better hull design for goin fast..

your gonna need moar power and a bigger prop if you wanna mess with him

You are way overpropped. You should drop down at least to a 21" pitch. That should give you 5400-5500 RPM. I would try a Renegade. They work well in a modest HP/weight situation. Good lift and control.
As for the Hydrostreams, just race them on a very choppy day. a) you will beat them and b) their hulls will completely delaminate since they were built like cheap lawnchairs.
