What would you do, if the dollars were the same?

  • Continue looking for mint 2100BR in my price range, then sell H170 to have one do-all boat

  • Keep H170 and add mint Hydrostream Vegas XT with 200 XRi

So here's a poll to play with!

History: I found a used mint Pulsare 2100BR several years ago for $14k, enjoyed it for 2 years then sold it (mint) to another happy owner.

Present: I've kept my eyes open for another mint 2100BR in the $14k to $18k range, and THEY DON'T EXIST ANYMORE :yell:

Here's another option for about the same money:

Keep my wife's 2002 Four Winns Horizon 170 OB as the family water sports boat, and add a 'me' boat to my collection for the speed thrills. Here's a pic of what I have now (and would sell to upgrade to a nice 2100BR), and a few pix of what I could add to satisfy my need for speed:

Family get wet and not care tubing boat:

and the need for speed just for me boat:

HELP ME DECIDE

My brother owned one for a couple of years, it was one hell of a ride and after a few too many close calls he sold it and bought a beautiful Rally Sport with a 200 on the back, that was a totally differant ride but just as much fun.:bigthumb:

Get the Stream, that way you will not have to dork up a Pulsare with a bimini top and a family friendly prop. Keep them seperate.

I can understand your dilema (spelling ?) that is certainly a very very nice Hydrostream based upon the pictures, looks brand new. The Hydrostreams seem small to me which is why they can achieve such high speeds with little horsepower, water conditions may have to be ideal to take real advantage but you have had a previous Hydrostream so you have been there done that as well.

I voted to keep on the hunt for a Pulsare ... one is bound to come up in your price range.

It's a tough call .. the hull is just gleaming on the Hydrostream !!!

I vote to buy the Hydro and keep the "good" boat.

That H170 is a boat you can keep for years, no worry of wood rot or getting it wet. Then when you sell the Hydro some day, you still have the pig boat to use for the family/friends and not care about people stepping on the vinyl or spilling Purple Drink on the floor!

I always wished I would have kept the old F150 as the keeper truck, then trade out other cars in between...

I say buy the Hydrostream, you can't beat having two boats, I'm so tired of changing props everytime I go out depending on what we are doing that day.

If it hasn't been replaced assume the core is rotten. Hydrostream did a terrible job building these boats and they can be shiny and new on the outside and rotten on the inside.

Not all are Rotten

The XT's that have rotten cores were left out in the weather their whole life. If a Stream has been cared for by a loving owner there is a very good chance that its fine. As with any used boat you would need to do a very detailed inspection and look for signs of neglect. My Enticer was a beater but had been properly rebuilt and was as stout as the day it left Ohio. My Sportsfire had some transom issues ( cracks ) in the corners but I did have a worked 200 on a boat built for a 125. Try to avoid the 1986 or 1987 Vegas. I love my Stream but miss both of my previous Mates

A Hydrostream de-laminating????

say it aint so!! :eyecrazy:

ive never heard of such a thing!!:rof:

All BS aside, we all know that JW has a beef with 90's checkmates & rotten wood, So with that being said the hydrostream is probably not the best choice.

Personally i really like the 'streams (and they haul the mail !) but i dont think i could ever own one, for fear of issues with the core.

my 2 cents

Many people have been burnt by that approach with these boats. It's not about neglect, it is about construction quality and making the wood water tight.

The very latest 'Streams were the best, and this '89 has been dry stored it's entire life. From what I know of 'Streams, they have the same core issues as the '80s and '90's Checkmates only worse because of build quality, right up until the very end when they were built about as well as the typical Checkmate.
I can buy this boat for 1/3 the cost of a newer used Pulsare, so it would be worth a rebuild. I wonder if CMate would tackle this?

Thanks for the input and votes so far! Keep 'em coming!

I'm only making this assumption based on pictures but if the interior looks anything like the exterior then I wouldn't be too concerned with core issues as that thing looks great.

I also have been looking for a 2100br with no luck so far. Wouldn't mind a open bow Hyrostream either but they seem to be even harder to find LOL. I say keep looking.

Thanks for the input so far! I see we're about 1/3 wait for a 2100BR, and 2/3 keep the H170 and buy the Vegas. I haven't made up my mind yet, still debating. Glad the owner hasn't decided to list this boat for sale yet.

Funny thing happened last night. I'm reading the paper in the kitchen, the wife gets home from work at 6:30. She looks out the slider towards the dock, sees no changes. Then looks at me and says: "I'm surprised there isn't another boat sitting out there right now" :rof:

Not "hi honey, how was your day", or "did you feed the dogs?". Hmmmm......

Honestly, I'd REALLY like to try an Allison Grand Sport next. IMPOSSIBLE to find around here. Next I'd prefer the 2100BR, much easier to find around here but still not easy as evidenced by how many are looking and how few are finding. The 'Stream is my 3rd choice, but so convienent and so clean and the price is right.......................
