pulsare setback, how much is too much?

looking at boats and one of them is a 95 pulsare. it has a 12 inch fixed, with a 6 inch hyd. jack plate. is this too much for the pulsare over a long period of time? thanks, curt

You don't have that troublesome splashwell lip to worry about with a pulsare.Just keep everything tight.

I ran 16.5 inches on my 21 with a 300X. 12" custom bracket and a 4.5 inch Stainless Marine hydraulic plate. Never had any problems, but the bow raised a bit higher on takeoff.

thanks every one. i figured if the fixed setback had a wider base to spread the load over a wider area it would be better. looks on the small side, the motor has so much leverage on a small area of the transom, is it any thing to worry about?

All the Pulsares I've seen, have huge support knees inside. There's no reason to worry about support unless your transom is rotten.

Nice looking bracket. Did you build that up? Powder coat or anodized?

I would think it is going to porpoise at low speed with 18" of setback. I would definately check for it on your test drive to see if it is livable. You can always trim in to stop it, but I find it annoying to drive like that. Some guys don't mind it.

I have them machined and powdercoated for me. They make the hieght, tuck angle, and setback anyway I want. Here's a couple I did.

Hey KCT11, I have access to the same 12" Stainless Marine setback bracket that you showed in your picture (post #9) and I also have a Bob's 5.5" HYD. jackplate that is also show in your picture. I am running a 225 Xri on my Pulsare 2100 and was not sure how the Pulsare would handle with 17"+ of set back. Did you run the boat?? Maybe Wildman can chime in...Randy, have you experimented with different setbacks on the Pulsare 2100??

jupiter, the picture was from a boat i was looking at. i have no idea what the added setback would do for the handling of the boat. from what others say in this thread, put the extra 12 inches in there.

I had 16.5 on mine and run 10" and 12" on others. They all run better than the 5". I like the bigger setback. It seems to handle high speeds better, but the bow rise is a bit more when getting on plane.
