85 Predictor

You might want to check the core for rot. In this picture all that dark color should look pink.

I see what you mean. I was stepping on it and it did not feel soft. I may throw a coat of mat down over it to be on the safe side. Unless you recommend something else.

Normally when you see those dark spots that's a indication of water intrusion. I helped a friend replace over half of his core that looked just like that. I rather you check/repair that now before you replace the floor. I would drill a pilot hole (1/4" deep) in a few places to make sure it's dry. You can fill those holes in with resin then glass over it. Also you could hit that area with 36 grit to see if that's dirt or dirty.

It's not foam, it's a layer of balsa wood between the top glass and the hull. Don't go to deep so you don't puncture the hull. If you need to you could also use a grinder or cut off wheel to score a small square in the top layer and peel it back to inspect. That looks like the core did in my Starfire everywhere that I found water.

Ill do the drill deal. Is it glass foam glas or just glass throughout? I appreciate the advice.

This is what you have in the boat.

This is what it should look like dry in the boat.

Looks like my rotter out hydrostream did.

You are making progress quickly. I am looking forward to see how this turns out. I really miss my little predictor.

I've only owned the boat for a weeke now and have about one full days worth of labor into it.. It started off with me telling the wife its a filler project and Id like to get it done for spring of 2015. Well needless to say the house projects are all big dollars (azek deck, 600sqft courtyard patio, driveway, and front walkway with a wall down the drive way, then landscaping) so the boat may be ready for this coming spring. I just gave her the prices for replacing the floor and surprisingly she shrugged it off as do your thing, probably because the boat will be our escape from life. Time will be tight come October with our second child on his way, but ill get it done.

Keep it up! I've been waiting to work on mine, but I just can't seem to find the time with it raining EVERY day around here. I am a little jealous that you have made such fast progress. The boat will be a blast for sure.

Any thoughts of putting some big power on it? My predictor went a best of 67 with a faststrike 150 and a 24p raker II.

This weekend is a bust for me since I will be doing a patio job all weekend...need to do it since I've been furloughed. As for bigger power unless I can't get this one running ill be looking for a 125-135 for now. This is my first boat that I will ever drive so I will be taking it easy till I get some seat time.

Well I cut out a section to see what I'm dealing with. Thankfully it is a smal area that's rotted on boh sides. Ill do it up right before installing the floors.

I'm not sure to be honest. I would buy from Merton's or some other Marine place. This is what you need: http://www.mertons.com/Floatation/scored_end.html 1/2" will be your thickness. 3/4" is for the pad or bottom if that needs replacing.
Make sure you keep cutting the core until you find the dry stuff. You'll know when you get to the dry or good core because it's a pain to come up.

You can remove the remaining floor and still be ok. Before you order supplies check the core underneath the remaining rotted floor. I can help with supplies or what you'll need to replace the floor stringer and core.

I took Rob's advice about Joe at Merton's. He is a stand up guy and seems to go out of his way for his customers. That's how it seems anyhow. There was never a point where he was unavailable to take my calls and he always went a little out of his way to give extra information on what I was doing.

I ended up with, 5 sheets of balsa, 5 gal of resin, 2 gal of hull and deck 11 yards of 1.5oz csm, 6 yards of 1708, and all of the needed supplies to do my job all for less than $600 to my door!

Keep up the hard work!

Ill give him a call in the next few days and get a quote. Hopefully the guy I just did the patio for gets the approval from his wife to do the front walkway in two weeks. I only made 100 off the patio and my wife made the rest...I'm still trying to figure out how that worked out since she was at home the whole time. The front walk will be going to the b.o.a.t. fund.

I just got off the phone with Joe. First thing I have to say is he is a real nice guy and was giving me tips of what to do and how to do it so it comes out nice. He gave me a rough quote of 2-300 and told me to come up to pick the stuff up, so I can see what I'm getting along with show me how to properly use the materials. Thanks guys for the referral.

I'm glad you called him. He's very knowledge and a standup guy!! For the record I don't get a thing from him for referrals.:D If I get fantastic customer service consistently then I'll pass the info along to others. Joe has excellent people skills!!:thumb:
