10'' jack plate....will it fit?

Hey guys, need advice real quick, I want to go with a 10'' CMC manual on my 185 Pulse (1992) but as I look at the two Teleflex steering hoses it does not look like they would be long enough to set back nor would they make the necessary curve transition without being pulled to sharpley,is there a way of adding on "offset " to the lines in order to make the bend.
I dont want to carve the cable hole as it is in my mind to close to the back of the well as it is. i want to go with the 10 and want to order it this week as I have a buddy coming from Ohio in 2 weeks and he could bring it too Toronto for me and I could save some cash on the duties ect.... HELP!
 
Are they Hydraulic 'hoses' or are they 'steering cables'? Anyway there is no offset for cables and you wouldn't need such a thing for hoses. The sharp angle is usually not a problem but you do need to make sure you have enough length. You could check it for sure by lifting the motor on a winch and seeing how far back you can move it.
 
cable length

now i don't know if you have any setback right now or not but i went from no setback to having 8" of setback.. i needed new steering cables and so forth so thats def. something to check first. but its not a big deal if you do need to replace them. just a heads up
 
I wonder if some boats got rigged with longer cables than others. Mine look like they are pulled as tight as they will go with a 6" setback.
 
stock cables on mine w/ 12"......(starflite)you do have to leave the cables hooked up to the motor while you install it though-gives you leverage when you put the mota back on:thumb:
 
I spoke to Mike at Checkmate today (about other issues) and asked his opinion on a 10'', he said on a 185 a 10'' is a waist of time and that a 6'' would do all I need and my cables would most likley not be an issue,he also said that I could run the cablis out of the stern of the boat just below the deck.
He said there is a "clamshell" set up that dresses up the hole where the cables exit the boat?...I was kinda lookin forward to lettin the mota hang way out there !!!! Thanks for all the input fellas
 
you may be good on the cables in the stock location that they exit. i did it the other way on my old predictor but I needed to take out some slack from longer cables.
 
i'm runnin 7.5" total & i unhooked the steering cables from 1 of the mounting loops under the deck i never checked total length of my cables ,but i dont know for sure if i could stretch em enuf for 10" j/p. 10" is definately better on the pulse .
 
I forgot you told me you had a plate, interesting the differant opinions on size, what differance do you feel you would gain with a 10" that you arn,t getting with the 7.5" you have?
 
i got a 5.5" @ first then added 2" i was told bye a couple people then that on the pulse 18's 10" is the way to go ! my top speed #'s only increased by 3mph ,but handling, getting on plane , ride are better than w/o any j/p @ all . i do alot more slower speed running ,kids & family tubing ,skiing,and wakeboarding .still playin w/ props , set up.
 
Z.. I got your PM, makes a ton of sense and at the same time the more hanging out the cooler it looks! I don,t have a ton of room on my lake as it is all broken up , so the 55mph I get as it is, is good for me, my days of 85-95 are over. I just want to doll it up a bit and get a better hole shot for runnin and skiing
 
i think youd need more power ,or be less veratile w/ your usage. my youngest is now 2,& it still seems like we carry an extra 50lbs of crap for him ! plus my wife don't like wot for too long when he"s in there too . .. but a slower day on the water is better than none !

Personally, I wouldn't start drilling extra holes in my deck. I would check my cable length and then go with what will fit...8" to 10". 6" will probably give you better handling but no increase in speed.
