13ft Paradise or Checkmate Playmate

WILDMAN

Well-known member
I'm getting one that I'm gonna do the full custom treatment on. I need to hear from people who have driven them or know about them. I'd like to know how they handle at speed. Chinewalk? Porpoise? What HP is too much. How's the quality? Any recomendations on setup? I needs da facts! It's gonna be my SWAMP RUNNER!

No seat time in the " Mini-Offshore " style Playmates, just the later day Jets, but I am really interested in seeing your results.

Quailty / Build: Paradise Boats / Fantasy F-13, last I saw @ 4 to 5 years agou a Fitness company out of PA had gotten the molds / rights and some finished boats. Rumors of poor quality going around.

This link is to a PA Dealer that seems to have a " new left over " for 4k with a 40 HP and trailer http://www.coventrymotorsmarine.com/boats.html. A used, but in great shape F-13 just went on Ebay for @ 4k also, it too had a 40 hp on it.

Good Luck

That one was on my watch list, but at that price I would have had a hard time getting it past the wife, especially with a 1/2 finished Resto Playmate Jet in the garage that I am looking to trick out the way you do your rigs.

Randy,

If you want to go wild, it seems like the 3 cylinder Yamies are the way to go.

We have one member that put on a 90 on one of the real deal offshore Playmates.

It seems like the Yamies have the best power to wait ratio for the Playmates.

90 H.P. and three cylinders is hard to beat. :)

I've gotta find one first. Anyone know of any others? No Fantasys!
I found one in NJ, but I need someone to bring it to Fl. Anyone coming to Daytona from up that way for Race Week in two weeks?

If you're looking for a real-deal Playmate then good luck. They come up fairly infrequently and there are bunch of members chasing them.

The Splashes are pretty plentiful though. Coop and JW seem to know which ones are the best of the bunch. One of them has more detail in the hull mould work, similar to the original. And the other doesn't. I can't remember which is which I can only tell when I see them.

If you look at them closely you'll see one of them has a dip on the sides near the transom. The dip looks similar to what Mate does on the 2100. The other one doesn't have the same detail, it's flat almost like the 2000.

Have a look on the original brochure and you'll see what I mean.

Randy,

Coop's got the low down on the builds.

The only one I ever saw was a real Checkmate GT in a garage in Queens NY - Was is storage for over 15 years, original rigging was for a long shaft motor that I gathered made the boat unstable, so the guy never ran it. I let it go, I guess now it was a mistake.... ?

This one looks to be the twin of the NJ boat

This has been brought up before, but Checkmate should seriously think about bringing back the Playmate.

If they build it as a mini 2100 - lookout.

Somewhere on here I have a few real good threads on these boats.

Fantasy had poor build quality, and at least 2 versions of the deck. The second deck had a smaller hatch since the original hatch would hit the radar wing if it was full length.

Paradice did build some of this version, and the quality was better. But they mostly built one that had smooth sides and a very modified deck. They also built a jet version.

Vyper was the best copy that I know of, and there is one here in town locally, but I don't think he's ready to sell.

I sold my plugs I made last year, when I ran low on money. It was a shame too, since they were waxed and ready to build molds from.
