hi guys,im restoring an old checkmate that was race prepared from the factory. fyi, ive got an original merc 150 xs going on it. we are finishing it in gelcoat just like the factory. so i am wanting everything factory original. i am looking for the checkmate decals that went on the sides just ahead of the transom. i need two of them. they say checkmate in black and white . the name is seperated by the knight symbol in the center and it is printed on clear plastic. i can email pictures to anyone who can point me in the right direction. im new to the site and have a good bit of old merc outboard parts if any one needs something. speedmasters, offshore exhausts, etc. regards, scott

Welcome to the board boatnut. You could try the factory. I seriously doubt they have any around, but maybe Mike Combs can steer you to someone who could replicate them for your restoration.

Try any local sign company. Most of them do custom lettering. If you have a picture, with today’s software they can recreate just about anything.

they aren't vinyl, aren't they molded plastic and riveted on? That how it is on my mate anyway, project for the winter

hi duane, they are possibly screen printed on clear plastic decal material. the material is about 3/8" larger in border than the black and white lettering. it is thin like vinyl but clear. thanks for all the replys so quickly . regards, scott

Keep posting and it will soon disappear. I think it's meant to embarass us into spending lots of time writing out here, LOL, but there are so many knowledgeable folks out here with great info that a "Wannabe" just wants to listen and not talk at first.

by the way guys, if you are ever looking for a hydraulic transom bracket, check out my website at portaproducts.com. regards, scott

boatnut 111, I have one of your porta brackets on my checkmate spectra 201 really like it 17inch setback with 12 inches of lift,Wish i could have got gauge/sender set-up for it .got some parts that im using to fabricate my own ,but it would have been nice to have a factory piece .

Ther's a company online that sells supplies for making custom decals. You can print images on to clear sheets. If anyone is interested I can try to dig up the link.
