I had a woman contacted me last week, She told me her father passed away 4-years ago and his old boat has been in the driveway since. She said it was a chris craft and wants it repaired. She said the tires were flat and she had now way to bring it to me to look at. I said send some pics and we can come get it if needed.

I was expecting a wood boat turns out it is the first year chris craft made a fiber glass boat.
So I checked online for info and found only 55 of these boat were ever made. It has a 327 chevy with a in and out v-drive.. its all there.
If anyone knows about these boats, like value, restoration tips please let me know.
I know it has to go back 100% original,Like a classic car to be worth top value.
I will know more next week and if I get the job I will document the restoration.

Thanks

I had -- well my father had a 1971 xk 22 with a 350 -350 chevy - it had a 250 volvo drive this boat the xk 19 with the v drive and 327 is like having the old 1960's version of a barrel back donzi. Well worth restoring if you can. I would love to see some pictures. The one you are speaking about is probally a 1969 vintige year.:bigthumb:

We had an XK22 as well back when I was a young 'un skiing on the Tombigbee River. I've kept up with the prices on those as well as the XK19s over the years and I've seen quite a few (including a 1969 XK19 with the 327) going from a low of $10,500 in a nice original unrestored condition to $36K for completely restored boats.
I remember the one we had as rock solid and having a great ride and was pretty decent to slalom behind as well.

I found a 69 XK19 for sale online for 50K seller is Alan Jackson the country artist. you know it must be pristine. The 69 is very rare.

Awesome Article

Awesome article.
I will use it as reference If I get the boat in. I told the owner I would contribute work for PR reasons. It would be a nice project ,I will post pictures as soon as I can. I believe in the next economic go round this boat done right would bring some serious cash. Any thoughts?

I am picking up the 69 Chris Craft Tues. I can't wait it's like finding the old Corvette in the barn. The boat is supposed to be # 7 built of 55 total in 1968 and released as a 1969. It should be interesting. I will post pics after I get it to my shop.

69 Chris Craft 19' Commander Super Sport

Went to look at the Chris craft in person Yesterday, I was expecting a V-drive, It had a Volvo Stern drive, Trim pump is bad had 4-flat tires and sat back in a mountainous road that looks like you could only get a Suzuki Samurai down. Over all the boat is in great shape as far as I can tell. It had plywood and tarps over it and has sat through snow pack for 4- winters.
If the engine was winterized it should be OK.
The owner and I have a game plan to retrieve it and bring it to my shop next week.
I will know a whole lot more when it get there.

I have been researching this boat. I have found some 69s that are v-drives called XK-19 and
the Volvo drive that is called the commander SS, The SS seams to be before the XK. But V-drives were in use before stern drives.

Anyone with knowledge of the history of models of Chris Crafts in 1969 Please let me Know.
I will be also inquiring with the Chris Craft forums and societies as well.

Thanks

contact the mariners museum in new ports news va. they hold all the chris craft archives, have your hull # and they can give you more info that you can imagine....I had a 72 XK-19 BB jet a few years ago....was able to owners manual, delevery sheet, specs, # etc from them, unreal info there..good luck Rob

I will have the boat tomorrow The retrieval was set back a couple days, I will post some pics soon in the next 2-days, From what I can tell it's a commander super sport, The owner sent me the Hull ID it's #7 in production of its year. The owner stated it was a 1969 It's looking more like a 1970. from the numbers. I am looking forward to posting some pics and getting some input.

Got the boat to my shop

It wasn't easy the road was so narrow and every turn was so tight I couldn't take it anywider, something was in the way every turn and the trailer bottomed out 3-time in 3- different places.

It's not too bad of shape it has some spyder web cracks and the gel is nicked up in spots. The engine is a 327 and looks like it will run I just have to check it all out .com/2009/11/14/dsc00320-h5yhy54k.jpg[/IMG]

I was a little disapointed when it turned out to be a 1970 intead of a 69 XK19, but it is a cool boat, I am not sure of the extent of restoration the owner would like to do at this point. It's not in bad shape and to do it right I'm afraid it would cost more than it would be worth.

I'm going to clean it up and get it running for now.

The engine and bilge look pretty clean for a 70.
