Checkmate in rough condition. looks to need a whole new floor and transom. will disassemble and assess situation. Is this boat worth anything?

It looks like a neat project.

Thanks for sharing and for keeping an old hull out of the dump!

I'm sure once finished it will be a lot of fun. :)

So I reinforced areas on the top deck around the transom to help with weight bearing. Top deck in pretty good shape. Found a pretty large repair area on the back corner that needs some attention. Going to get the deck flipped, fill and glass some of the holes in the dash. Then start sanding a prep for primer.

Great project. I have seen a lot worse! Keep up the good work and please keep us posted. There are a few threads of restorations on these checkmates. Check fiberglassics and "scream and fly". I have a 1973 16 foot Kona that will need a floor and possible transom so I am following every resto thread I can find. I have to wait for spring and warmer weather.
Look forward to more progress!

Got the deck flipped over. Inked and sanded with 80. The gold flake in the original paint was difficult to sand. Used up a lot of sand paper.

Well this is what a brand new Vmate II looked like in 1978.

If it is the same hull, which was 17'3" long and 88" wide, it was one of the most impressive boats Checkmate ever made. My son restored a 78 model and he has a 150 Promax on it and the boat runs 80 MPH. The boats are very stable.

Good luck with the project!

Chuck
