1992 Checkmate 281 Convincor

New member
I am looking to buy a 1992 Checkmate 281 Convincor, with twin 454, 465 hp. She has 386 hours of enjoyment in the Chicago area.

Does anybody think that there is any reason to buy, or not buy this boat for $25K.

Thank you,

That old of a boat with twin engines is going to be nothing but a hair pulling night mare that is going to dollar you to death.

The trailer looks very bad. The probably dry rotted white walls that belong on a car don't help either.

The paint looks kinda rough in the pics so that means in person its really going to be rough. And to top it off black is going to burn the crap out of you in the sun. Your always going to feel like your standing in a oven.

The boat looks like it has spent most of its life left in the water. Twin engines are not necessary in any CM under 30. In my opinion the resale should be less for having twins in it. But its all up to the buyer.

I say look around for something nicer. I would not give anything over 10 grand for this boat.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION

I looked at the pics again and the drives look real rough. It also looks like they painted the props with chrome paint. Look at the nuts and the inner part of the prop.

I saw that. they doo look odd. The whole outdrive looks like it was bombed with primer as well.

Maybe you should not have said anything bsprout gave me a negative mark for pointing that out. But if you look closer the tie bar looks like it had chrome paint sprayed on it also.

The seats and stuff look nice.

But to avoid any negative rep points I won't say anything about whats wrong in this picture.

:sssh: You got me looking I see the signs of a tired engine. All the oil on the valve cover comes from blow by. And they have the oil fill cap tied down so the blow by stops blowing it off. Plus the engine was just washed and you can still see the oil in the fins on the valve covers.

The air filter is not in the top pan right its hanging out and it looks like a paper one not a K&N

K&N does make a marine set up just like that I have one but my filter is red.

negative post?

Sorry big red if i gave you a negative post!? I dont even know how to do that! Ill give you a positive to make up for it if you tell me how!? I gave u a compliment on pointing that out. I dont know this boat and i would have never noticed the painted prop if u didnt point it out:thumb:
