1995 Pulsare 2100BR, 1995 225 Promax

JW:

I pulled the Oil Injection in my engine, and it really wasn't that much of a job. Mostly tying off the hoses from the resevoir, crankcase etc.
I got a kit from Merc that you have to have. Has a plastic plug off with an extention on it to hold the bushing in place inside the crankcase. The big thing is to run a mix in the tank first, so that when you pull the gear assembly, you have mixed fuel in the system for the engine.

MSmile, it's quite high out of the water. I have the manual jack, and it's set so the propshaft is about 3" below the pad. I can walk to the back of the boat and lean way over, and my exhaust doesn't get into the water. The Pulsare 'sits' quite level at rest, and stays quite level on take-off. Advantage of a light motor

Being 5" shorter though, it might be close. You'd probably want a hydraulic jack, then it'd be no problem.

There he goes on with the light Pro-Max!

With most other motors, a hydraulic jack plate would be a must, as it does help take-off and it makes it easier to get your top speed while driving, not while at rest.

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!

New additions: Past few weeks I've added new replacement Mercury 7-petal dual stage fiber reeds as part of a full tune-up, replaced the 5.5" CMC manual jack for a 10.5" setback RapidJack manual jack, and a bow cover.
Had some flying pix taken, waiting to see how they turn out.

Oh, and with the jackplate set so the propshaft is 3" below the pad, the exhaust port at the top of the midsection is approx. 1" above the waterline at rest now.....
Good thing I have room to raise the plate!!

Bad61SS, I'm not sure what to do with the stock CMC plate. It's just sitting in the garage right now. I don't know whether to hang on to it or offer it for sale. I know you can buy one from BassPro.com for $199 and it comes with mounting hardware. Mine is used (barely) and doesn't have hardware. So it's probably worth about as much as a good used prop. What I might do is offer it for trade against a 24" Chopper II prop.

Bakedgoods, you mean how much $$$$$ would it take to get me to part with this boat now?? Knowing I couldn't replace it?? It would take a suitcase full of hundreds for me to part with it

Thanks for the compliment. I did have it sold earlier this year, but that didn't work out. Why don't you drive over and take a ride? I'll let you drive it.......

JW, With the improvements you have made, stop keeping the MPH numbers secret.

Sorry, but my speedo just pegs at 80 mph when I'm at 70, and haven't had a chance to GPS it yet...Have a GPS at home now, just have to do some testing..........

You got it! Can't wait. Call me on the cell, and we'll tear up some water and burn up some dead dinosaur for a few hours. Looking forward to it!

OK fellas I can post some numbers for you today. I borrowed a hand-held GPS from work.

Last year, with a full tank of gas or with a half tank and a passenger, the boat would routinely do 68 mph on GPS. Propshaft set approx. 3.5" below the pad. One day last fall, when the gas was low and ALL the weight was out of the boat, I saw 69.9 mph.
This year, with the extra 5" of setback and a bow cover, I gained. Todays run was by myself, but with 35 - 38 gallons of gas onboard. I topped it off after my last run, filled it until gas spewed out the fill and the vent. Twice.
Today after 2 runs I saw a solid 72.5 mph on the GPS. Jackplate is 3.25" below the pad. The setback and/or the bow cover was good for 4.5 mph. I also gained rpm so that I now turn 6500 (max recommended on the Promax) even with this full tank of gas.
Time to take this monster hole-shot ski prop off and find out what a Promax can do on a Pulsare with a top-end prop. Or maybe continue with this existing prop and raise the jack plate. I'm at 6500, but the rev limiter isn't supposed to kick in until 6750............

Thanks Bill! 75+ mph looks easy now considering my setup is still far from optimal for top speed. Got the aerodynamics worked out, now to find a top-end prop and raise the jack plate. I can also go back further with setback, but I'd really like to stay at 10.5" if possible. The boat has more of a sports car feel to it this spring, the motor has really 'come on the cam' so to speak. I'll tell you what though, Rick has got me thinking about a ZT220 BR with your motor in it......

Congrats, I can see I am going to have to get a bow cover. Your cooking with gas now.

JW, I have not driven that package yet, but Iwould have to say it would be awesome! Less deadrise, less weight, more step, WOW. I really think with some tweaking of props when I find the right pitch, I will see 65, so I would conservativly say that 220 shoud hit 70
thumb.gif
ANd for your boat, that would be tough to give up, but as they say, everything is for sale for the right price, hopefully you can replace it with better.

The reason I'd go back to an I/O is to improve the gas mileage slightly and have the option of through prop exhaust for quieter running as compared to the Pulsare/Promax package. That Promax at speed is a loud engine, as you probably well know. For a long day of pulling tubes, the ZT220 should be easier on the wallet and easier on the ears.

Did you seem my remark on my to date fuel sonsumption JW? I have 10 hours of cruising for break-in with occasional fly-by's for prop check and I have ONLY used about 15-20 gallons. WOW I don't here my exhaust once I am on plane, only when at idle or getting onto plane, also the built in platform helps keep the real loud rumble at bay somewhat. Too me, a perfect combo...
