Newer to the forum and looking for a little help from some of you experienced merc heads. I have a 175 v6 with composite reeds intake work and exhaust tuner. my compression right now is 120-125lbs across the board Does anyone know how small or a combustion chamber can I have and still run pump gas I have been told a few different numbers and applications. I have two piece heads not sure how many cc they are now but was told that I could get down to 26cc and be looking at about 140-145lbs. Any thoughts?

read head c.c.s

TO TELL HOW MANY C.C.YOU HAVE RIGHT KNOW,USE A TURKEY INJECTOR,SYRINGE WITH C.C. ON IT.PUT SPARK PLUGS IN ,THEN TAKE YOUR HEAD PUT IN SOFT JAW VISE WITH DOMES UP AND LEVEL. FILL THE DOME WITH A FLUID TILL ITS LEVEL AND SUCK IT UP IN TURKEY INJECTOR,SYRINGE AND READ C.C. IT WILL GET YA CLOSE.

I prefer to grease the head up and slap a piece of plexi glass on it. Fill a cheap 10 cc syringe with light oil and squirt it into the spark plug hole until it reaches the hole bottom of the hole. Easy to see when it hits the bottom of the hole. Mercury specs most of their race stuff with the spark plug hole filled which is about a 2 cc difference.

cc the heads the other day first off they are two piece heads. Spark plug in level in a vice with vasoline around combustion chamber to seal, they were 36cc, I was told I can run 26cc on pump gas with 23 degree timing also i have 64 and 66 carb jets.

Also does anyone know what the torque spec for the head bolts is? I am currently using ngk BU8H plugs, is that correct also?
