2011 2400 BRX W/Verado...

That is a sharp looking boat........Has anyone tried one of the 350 HP Verados yet? I wonder what the extra 50 hp would do?

Wow....that is one heck of a price difference for 50 hp but it would be interesting to see what numbers one would put out.

I've talked to a few people that bought the 350 Verados. They gained 0-2mph over the 300XS. Not worth the $10K to me!

Merc needs to lighten the Verados.......Like Yammi did with the SHO. That thing is light for a 4-stroker. The extra horsepower and torque you would gain by going with a Verado is robbed by its heaviness. Those things are heavy to be hanging back in the next zip code on a jack plate.

If I am reading this right, the 300 Verado is 2-3 mph slower than a 300xs and the 350 is maybe 2 mph faster. So there is a chance of ther 300 Verado on a 2400LD still being a 74-75 mph boat? I found a 300 Verado brand new for $13,000. I think I can stand to be 2 mph slower for $4000. I have done some research and no one that I can find has a top end speed comparison, but 1 article tested the same boat with both engines. According to them, the Verado from an idle will run and hide from the xs. Any truth to this?

I was told that the XS is much better on the low to mid range, but I never ran one. While you may be able to get a Verado for $13K, you still need all the fly by wire steering and controls which will cost you another $2500-$3000. The 300 Verado is alot thirstier than the XS also. You will also need to use Smartcraft guages and harness if you don't already have them.

I have a 2011 1850br with a 175 Verado 6" jackplate and 23p tempest. Getting 63mph (GPS) hole shot will put you in your seat. I've taken several bassers with 200 optis out of the hole so bad they didnt have time to catch up !!! This motor is a problem free work of art !!! Once this merc is out of warranty in 2016 a 200hp ecm will be installed. I do agree though the big 6 cyl verados need to lose some weight. Give it time the next gen verados are coming soon to compete with the yammies !!!

JJG, I have the same engine but on a 18.5' Concord boat and no setback. I get about 60mph with the Tempest, Trophy, and Laser, but hit 62.5mph when I tried a 24P Fury... and it accelerated like the Tempest (vent plugs were removed). I think the Laser had the best acceleration though.
As for your 200HP ecm thoughts; the 200hp version has a different intake(?) cam... and possibly different gearing in the gearcase. Also keep in mind that the 200hp variant was rolled out in the "Generation 2" Verados. They had enough subtle differences that a Gen 2 cal in a Gen 1 engine would probably set off alarms a lot. I think Gen 2 is 2008 and later.

Actually I do have a Gen 2 175 Verado. I bought it last August with my 2011 1850 c'mate. As far as the ECM goes I have already talked to my local Verado tech and the only difference between the 150-200 engines are the ECM's which in turn control fuel trim & boost to vary the HP between the 3 models. As far as the Fury is concerned, had a chance to try one but opted not to due to the hight I'm running on my jackplate. The Fury has much more blade area for lift and would probably blow out at full trim with my setup. But after seeing your numbers I may reconsider. Would you know approxmatly how high your verado is sitting ? Also the Fury's lowest pitch is 24 and with my current rpm's (6300) I was concerned with dropping to 6150 which with a full load may cause performance issues. Let me know your thoughts.
