225H.O. Evinrude on 17’ 171 Spectra?

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, and looking forward to chatting about everything checkmate - love them!! I bought a 1988 17’ 171 spectra that had a 175 black max on it, but it blew up. It weighed 393 lbs. I am wondering if a 2015 225H.O. Evinrude weighing 503lbs would be too much weight on the boat or any other problems. Thank you all in advance!

I can’t tell you if your boat can handle the 225 but be very careful. There are serious safety and legal issues that can be caused by overpowering a boat

It will be way to heavy for that hull. The boat only weighs 1000 pounds. I had that motor on my 21' Mate and i had to put on trim tabs to stop the porpoise at slower speeds. Plus it has a huge gear case which unhelpful on a lighter boat.

Find another small block V6 2.5L. They made them in up to 225hp. My .02
