hey, i am ging to swap from a laser2 prop to a tempest prop, 23p on both. my question is will they have the same rpms or different being that the tempest is almost an inch bigger in diameter? just wanted to make sure because i only tach about 5250 now and cant go ant less. i could use more rpms.

Keep us posted on the results, If I were to change from my Laser II I would try the Tempest II also. Let us know what happens. Anxiously waiting....

Conventional wisdom would suggest the Tempest will lower your RPMs even more. The extra blade surface means you are pushing more water. Try it before you trade it. The Tempests are built for heavier, high HP boats, while the Lasers are designed for smaller boats like your Eluder.

hey , i want to try a tempest because everyone says there so good. my laser 2 has great holeshot but not much top end. wot is only 5200 rpms. should i go to a 21 p prop and see if i can raise my rpms? would this help top end? thanks

I remember your former posts on engine height. Have you tried raising your motor even more to bring up your revs? I would try to get my RPM's up before I got into the expensive prop swapping game. Lasers like to be run high. I've heard of guys running as high as even with the pad. Maybe 175Checkmate will wade in here, he loves Lasers. Or send him a PM, he has a lot of experience with that prop on a smaller Mate.

If you still have great hole-shot but too low top rpm, then raise that motor up. You can also send the prop out to a good prop shop and ask for more rpms.

85, I would try and raise the motor up before you start swaping props. You rpm is a bit low and swaping to a larger dia prop will put you at about 5k.
1" of pitch = 200 rpm.
Increasing dia is like 100 rpm per 1/2 inch

hey , i have a hydraulic jackplate 10 inches back and i have run it all the way up which makes my prop even with the pad. even this far up it only tachs about 5250 rpms. i have been told by mercury to start with a 25 p tempest loaner and work my way down. does anyones have any suggestions, thanks.

hey, i finally tried a 25 p tempest from mercury this past weekend and it was worse than the 23p laser 2 that i have. it had no take off and the boat rocked up and down the whole time unless you were wot. this prop did top out 10 mph faster but was not enjoyable to ride in because the entire boat was lifted out of the water. this prop did not say tempest plus, only tempest. should i try a 23 tempest or stick with the laser 2. my boat is a eluder 18 ft. with a 10 inch cmc hydraulic jackplate. does anyone know what is best? the laser just slips alot in turns and feels unstable.

If you were turning 5250 with the 23p Laser, going to a 25 Tempest is way too much. Try the 23 Tempest. See what your top RPM and speed is. If you like it you can fine tune the holeshot with the vent plugs.

Jim

hey , i think a 23 p tempest would be better also. do you think it would make the bow bounce like the 25 p tempest did ? my 23 p laser 2 does not do this. thanks.
