250 pro xs

Hey gang, for all the peps running a 250 hp on a 2100 br, what are your speeds, set- back, and prop selection? I know this is a vague question, but similar HP on same hull should be close. My package( no pun intending) is a 250 pro xs with standard gear case of 1:75. Six inch bobs hydraulic plate running a 28 p trophy plus. Boat runs and handles well, but not getting the top end speeds that a lot of you guys are getting with the same HP. :poke:
 
Can you drive it on the pad really well? My 2100 used to run only low 70's until I learned how to drive it. It took me a season to figure it out. Not trying to be a smart ass, sometimes top speed is just not set up. Also if its only 6 inches back thats not helping at all. What is the rpm limit on the motor? Give up on it and buy my 2400 :)
 
2100 BR with bow cover, 12 inches set back (5.5 hydraulic plate mounted on a stainless marine box) 250XS 26 Trophy plus. 78-79MPH GPS. RPM not sure but somewhere near the red line but I've never hit the limiter with this setup.
 
Sounds like you have more rpm to go so that's not slowing you down. I dont care to prop for more rpm then what the recommended rpm is if the motor is stock. Mainly I have found they do the best work in that area and power seems to fall off after 6000. My 2100ld with a 250xs ran mid 80's that was 13.5 back and tried it 17.5 back also. 1.62 sporty and around 1.5 above the pad. The more set back the better for speed. I however hated it that far back when I used the boat for general all purpose boating and ended up 11 back with a 3.0 on it...I think a little closer would have been even better for that usage. After I bought my 2400 is when I started really playing with the set up while I was trying to sell it and came up with those numbers.
 
If top speed is what you want, you have got to raise the engine. Like Kurt said, 1.5" above the pad will work good and will give you more rpm's. On the down side, with a stock gear case, you are flirting with blowout trying to run that high. You really need a sporty gear case or a nose cone to get the max top end. I have ran 79gps with a stock gear case 225opti, but I have also had blowout at that speed. If this ever happens to ya, trust me, you will be returning to the dock for a change of pants! Having the boat turn 90deg left at that speed happens very quick and nothing you can do about it.

Can you explain to me why that would happen? I always thought that blowout meant like cavatation with a prop. Why does it turn the boat? Sorry not to high jack your thread.
