38 fountain... not so good driving...

You could be the best boat operator in the World. Running loose can bite anyone in the behind at any given moment.

I am fortunate that nothing like this has ever happened to me, but I am not gonna beat on the guy.

What I don't get is why he would provide the video to a news station??? It looked like it must have been a Go-Pro vid or something. What am I missing?

I'm thinking that guy only felt that the boat could be full throttle or no thottle. There is a bunch of space in between buddy! and it usually is able to keep the boat on plane too!!!

That is true! Hard to resist WOT in a Poker Run/Fun Run, but water conditions should dictate. I saw some other videos on OSO that are kind of making me change my mind on this incident. The water looked way to crowded and way to sloppy to be running that hard.

Same guy had flipped a 31' Scarab on the Tennesee river a few years back.

NO WAY would I ever allow people to be standing at anything more then a lesuire cruise. Not enough seating then they shouldn't be in the boat if your going out to impress and hammer. At the end you can see the boat was over trimmed when it came to rest.

A LOT of common sense from the start was missing in action. Not supprising it didn't get better as the ride started. See if he learns from accident number 2.

That reminded me of a Star Trek battle scene where the Klingons (which happens to also be a great term for toilet paper stuck in your buttcrack) would hit the Enterprise with a Photon Torpedo and suddenly the cameras are going side to side as everyone gets tossed around the bridge.
Except for the bikinis. Thank God. If I saw Kirk and Spock in bikinis I'd probably have to poke my eyes out.

Yes it can happen to anyone, happened to me only I rolled the boat over twice before coming to a rest, I probably looked exactly like that guy did flying across to the passenger side and knocking myself out, I still consider myself very lucky that I was alone that day and it changed the way I boat today as far as safety, these guys I would think should have had PFD's on running that hard.

I would have tossed the Go-pro over the side.

You "spun" the boat twice or actually "rolled" the boat over twice!?! You managed to stay in the boat (unconcious)?

Wow!

Boat turned to the right and then flipped sideways twice, I posted about it a few years ago on a thread, here is the post.

About 6 years ago I flipped my boat at about 78 mph, not sure what happend.... all of a sudden it turned to the right as hard as it could... I totally destroyed the passenger seat and the only thing holding the engine on the back was the trim ram, where the engine bracket bends it snapped right off... anyways I was not wearing a life jacket, was wearing chest waiders and didn't have the tether on my wrist, I was lucky the force kept me pinned to the floor of the boat and it landed upright half full of water, I was knocked out for a min or two, by the time I came to someone was allready in my boat. Whats wierd is I drove this boat for 4 years every weekend before this happend, I got it fixed and drove it for one more year and then sold it cause my wife wouldn't ride in it after that, I never open my boat up anymore without a PFD because I thought I could totally trust that boat and it almost killed me, I shook for 5 hours after I realized what happed. got right back on the horse though with hydraulic steering installed,{ only had dual cable before} and $6500 later.

yep...shat happens.

hitting a set of wakes or a wave at just the right speed (be it too fast or two slow) with the wrong amount of trim or tab can cause strange things to happen. if he had been racing for ten years im surprised he didnt recognize the set that caused this....or at least make everyone wear their pfds. he had the throttles pegged when this occurred.

looked to me like too much throttle off of a wake at an "off camber" angle. he hit the first set...pitched the boat...got outa the throttle too late. at that point the events were set into motion and the rest was cause and effect. nothing to do but hang on for the ride.

people downplay the danger of travelling on the water. i have experienced first hand that a good time can go south VERY quickly and without warning if your not on your game every second.

the unorthodox and inconsistent pattern of wakes form other vessels and double ups seem to cause me more trouble than just being in a rough sea. manmade waves come at very un natural angles and shapes making very unpredictable results in handling.

Yeah, I saw that earlier this week.. that video was ruff to watch.

Nothing wrong with running a boat hard.. the problem lies in the fact that there are a bunch of bad decisions that surround the incident. Nobody wearing any kind of pfd, no kill switch attached (that I seen), and passengers standing- also, imo too many people onboard to be running like that in that type of water.

I'm sure that nobody onboard expected to wreck/spinout, but the fact is you push a boat hard enough and long enough the odds are not in your favor.

I think the guy is an idiot... not for pushing his boat, but for making bad decisions while doing so.

This video has gone viral! It has been on national news stations all week. I would be mortified if that was my boat.
