5'' VS 10'' Setback on 2100BR help/info?

I added another 5" of setback (total 10") to my Pulsare BR the same day I added a factory bow cover. My engine was the 225 2.5 Promax that advertised weight was 375 lbs.
Same prop, propshaft 4" below the pad, I went from 68 mph to 74.5 mph. This was with a Tempest prop worked for ski hole-shot.
 
I don't have any numbers to back this claim up but I added spacers to my 5" jackplate and immediately noticed a pick up in top speed. But the biggest improvement was the handling. The additional set back plus changing to a trophy+ GREATLY reduced the chinewalk...or at least made a lot less difficult to handle.

I run 14" of setback that includes my hydraulic jackplate (which I highly recomend) went from 10" to the 14" almost completely took the chine walk out of it and have alot broader range of speed before it starts to porpus before with smaller setback it would hop at any speed below 40 now i can take it all the way down to 22 MPH with a trophy prop and it tucked all the way in before it starts to hop, I also gained 8MPH, and my big X wieghts 505 as well
 
I have 12" of setback on a 300 HPDI, which is 550 lb. With most props, it will porpoise if you try and run below 35 mph, even with the trim all the way down. Once you get over 35, you can trim it way up and it runs really efficiently. With a Merc High 5 prop, I can go down to 25 mph and it still won't porpoise.

Your Raker should be a pretty good prop for the boat. The boat needs a lot of bow lift and the Raker does that, similar to a Tempest. Most people like the Trophy, but it isn't for everyone and usually loses some top-end vs a good 3 blade.
 
Thanks for all the info, if the weather doesnt get to cold here this weekend I would like to take it out and run it to see how she acts. I dont know if the motor is even set where it needs to be, it is at about 4'' below the bottom of the boat so should be close. It was rigged at C-mate but I dont know if they ever ran it or not. If they didnt I dont think the boat has been on the water as of yet.
Hey - Any idea how much speed I will pick up when I change the carpet from red to gray this winter? LOL!

I'm sure experience varies, but I've found I can go to 2.5"-3" below the pad with no detriment to the holeshot. Any higher and the prop releases when the boat breaks over.
 
Ya it maybe able to go up some. If I dont install hydraulic this winter I will just take it out and keep adjusting the manaul till she loses traction and then drop it back down to where it ran the best at. Thats what I didnt with my 2100LD anyway and it was a great running boat.
 
Got the boat out for its first run

Weather wasnt to bad and wind was down yesterday so I took it out to see how it would run. First off very impressed with the Etec. Very quiet and runs very smooth. I got my center of prop approx 4'' from pad of boat on my manual jack but ran out of adjustment and didnt want to move motor so I left it there.
I couldnt believe the difference in this new 2008BR vs my 1999LD I sold, for some reason the 08 rides, handles and turns way better than my 1999 did.
Boat ran 65-66 on gps before the china walk kicked in. I couldnt really steer out of it either it gets pretty bad. Oh ya the boat had a full tank of gas but other than that had nothing in the boat other than me and a buddy. The nose of the boat seemed really light / out of the water more so than my LD.
All that being said and ideas what I need to do or change to get ride of the chines??

They seem to chine walk bad if the motor is too low. Get it up to 1" below the pad and it will be much easier to drive full speed.
 
I might have to get a new jack then, I only have 1 more hole to go on my motor and my manual jack is all the way up. Might be a good reason to get one with more setback and hydraulic :cheers:
 
If you go to 1" below the pad on a manual j/p, it will lose bite when planing off. That's where the hydraulic plate comes in, but before spending a bunch of money I would move it up a hole to get to 2 1/2" to 3" below and try it like that. It will help speed and some say it helps chine walk. Also, I've read the Raker, though good for top speed, tends to chine walk more (a common trait of the Raker, Tempest, and Yamaha T1).

If you really want to improve the chine walk, you should start looking at the 4-blades like Bravo 1, Hydromotive Quad IV OB, Trophy, Rev 4, or TXP OT4. I know my Hydromotive Quad IV OB and Merc High 5 are far easier to drive than the Yamaha T1.
 
Yup, Raker tends to walk. Trophy 4 blade is much better. I have a Rev 4 coming from KCT11 but I won't be able to report till spring as the boat has been put away for the winter. As Skip says, get it up to 3" below and you are probably pretty close.
 
I have a 2100br with 225pro XS now has 11.5" set back using a stainless marine jack plate and a stainless marine 7" set back box. With this setup and being a bow rider i really don't notice any porporising at low speeds, normally kids are in front and help keep it down. As for true performance the extra setback probably gave about 1-2 mph on the GPS speedo but that may differ on your boat and conditions.

The Pulsare 2100 LD and BR are both great boats and like the bid CID outboards because of their weight and torque. These boats also seem to like set back but set back comes with a compromise when it comes to speed and practicality. With a 300xs Wildman runs something like 15" set back on the 2100's and goes over 90, other guys with 10" hit mid upper 80's.

Decide what you want to use the boat for as sking and top speed are different and you can alway go for the middle and be satisfied in both worlds.
