No I never had a problem with push rods getting chewed up from lack of oil. It sounds like you have a bad oil problem or incorrect valve train geometry.

Did you buy the engine, or have it built, or did you build it yourself.

I find it hard to understand that someone build a 632ci motor and have a plugged pushrod???? or oil prob for that matter. Someone who is spending the coin to build a motor that big with an aftermarket block is not gonna have an oil prob like that......................I think I know whats going on here the B.S meter just went off :sssh: I think you ment 454

NO ,I BOUGHT THIS MOTOR FROM A GUY IN OHIO,I PUT IT IN MY BOAT,DIDNT MAKE IT TEN MINUTES OF RUNNING,AND IT STARTED MISSING,I HEARD SOME VALVE NOISE,I PULLED THE VALVE COVERS OFF AND FOUND METAL....THEN I NOTICED # 1 PUSH RODS WERE BURNED UP,SO I REPAIRED THEM AND IT DID IT AGAIN.I CALLED THE GUY THAT I BOUGHT THE MOTOR FROM,HE TELLS ME HE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM.THE ONLY THING DIFFERENT FROM MY COMBO AND HIS IS THE OIL COOLER,WHICH IS A BRAND NEW ONE..I STARTED THE MOTOR YESTERDAY WITH THE COVERS OFF,THE REAR ROCKERS HAVE SOME OIL COMING OUT OF THEM,THEN AS U GO FUTHER UP THE MOTOR THE LESS OIL COMES OUT AND NO OIL ON #1.IT HAS 70 PSI OIL PRESSURE,ITS A DART BLOCK,IM GOING TO BUY PASS THE OIL COOLER,AND SEE IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM,,I HOPE BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO PULL IT BACK OUT..I WOULD LIKE TO BELEIVE THE GUY,THAT HE NEVER HAD THESE PROBLEMS,BUT YOU NVER KNOW..

What part of Ohio did the engine come from ? Things don't sound good metal shavings in a 632 ci engine would make me pull the engine in a split second before a major problem trashed the whole engine.

For instance if a valve drops or a head comes off the valve you are taking a chance in destroying the whole engine.

I got all the metal out,i caught the push rod right when it happened, and the system one oil filter was clean,i wonder if the new oil cooler could cause this problem, because swairs on his mom,he never had these problems, and the motor was freshened,he put five hours on it then pulled it..i dont think a valve will drop,i need to find out were the restriction is coming from,or were the oil is going instead of to the lifters..:sssh:

I am very leery about taking anybody's word on a engine unless I know the personally. Why did the orginal owner take the engine out of his boat ? And yes you can knock a head off a valve when it seases up from lack of oil in the guide and the piston hits it.

Did the engine come from MANSFIELD OHIO ?

he pulled the motor out because the guy that bought the boat wanted the stock motor back in it,

What kind of oil cooler are you running are you sure its plumed correctly. Just curious what kind of rockers do you have and what kind of heads are on the engine.

632

Our shop rcently built to Dart 598CI I'm going to have to go along with Jammaster.

So your telling me that just because you have an aftermarket block you wont have oiling problems? Now im really confused me and the guy with the 632 have been drag racing for years , just now going boating and let me tell you everything breaks regardless of how much money you spend its just a matter of time. BTW he really does have the 632 in a 251 convincor and its badass !!! not to mention probably one of the cleanest ones you will ever see NO BS !!!

I think so,why

Okay here you go last time I seen oil problems to the top end of a engine it came from the main bearings being smoked. Their really seems to be a problem with the engine to me to loose the oil on the top side.

icon_slap.gif The boat is not bada$$ yet it wont run.

Ill put the old motor back in it,that i still have, and it will run..Okay here you go,the motor has 70 to 80 psi oil pressure...i apreciate the advice, but there is nothing in the oil filter, meaning bearing material,no noises etc....so i dont think its mains, rods etc.Im leaning towards a lifter oil passage plug,or something blocking the oil passage,or in the passage:brickwall:and u asked earlier about were the motor came from,do u know the motor?

I don't think I would start it anymore till I figured out what was going on. I think I would pull the distributor and use a oil priming tool and a drill to watch oil flow. Has the engine been run before you bought it after the freshen up. Not sure if I know the engine or not if it came out of a Checkmate I probably do.

I might have told you wrong I dont know if you will get enough oil pressure to the top end by a drill with the distributor out to see a difference.

No the boat is badass and it will run if we put the 540 back in it, ran 84 with that one!

HAHA WOW :rof:I guess we can see where this post is going. Well chassis man I see your not a motor man. Yes you can have issues with a motor with an aftermarket block...........but any good engne builder with high end parts like that will not have an oil problem like that. If there was it would have been taken care of after start up. But let me get this cleared up you guys pulled out a so called good 540 to put a so called used unknown 632 in????????? I mean lets see some picks then.

cuz this stinks real bad of B.S

so how was that 251 at 84 what else is done to the boat to handle that speed ??????????? what prop are you running?????

let me guess you have a #6 drive on it too right ???
