Anyone know what model my Checkmate is (1971 18ft closed bow)

Also, need to put new floor in. (hopefully, see pics) Any suggestions on how to do it. Also, getting conflicting advice on type of resin. Is polyester resin ok?? (one blog suggests using epoxy because the polyester won't adhere properly - but, then again, they are trying to sell their resin) Would really appreciate any advice.

Im using Poly on mine . It all depends on what you want to use . Epoxy is better but Poly works good too .....

There are many great resto threads on here that you can read through and pictures to follow along with. Seems like a mix of both poly and epoxy resins have been used with success.

MP you can use either epoxy or poly for your floor replacement as Ram said earlier there plenty of restorations to look thru. Post up the questions all the folks here will be more than happy to help you. Looking at the picture hope you're gonna replace all of it. Do it right and never worry about it again. Good luck!! thanx for the posts! I have already bought poly - but I could return it. But, I won't have any problems with the poly adhering to the previous fiberglass (which seems pretty worn out)?? If not, then I will just go ahead and use what I already have.

It will stick provided you prep the surface correctly. If it is going over a dirty surface, nothing will stick...

the old fiberglass looks pretty worn out. what is the best way to prep this?

There are many others on this forum that could better assist you with the fiberglass work, but I would start by sanding it down with a 36 grit disc on a grinder. Take some pictures a little further away so we can see the area we are looking at, is that the hull of the boat?

Once you have all of the carpet glue, dirt, loose glass etc. off, clean the surface with acetone prior to installing anything over it.

finally got all the sole (floor) removed. it is only 24" wide. will start prepping it next week. (on different computer, will post pic later)

still need to get the seat mounts out of there. unfortunately, they are the most solid structure in the boat

Hi - still trying to get floor in, just no time but I am hoping this week and will post pics. In the meantime, have some peeling going on. Can this be buffed out with rubbing compound and then apply a good marine wax? Or is this peeling more serious?? Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

You can sand and wax the peeling spot to hide it, but it needs new paint/clear to be "fixed".

With the stringer that rotted I would be highly suspect of the core also being rotten

New clear paint?? Is that gelcoat or? Not sure what to ask for?
Also, replaced the stringer. What do you mean by the core?
