86 Enchanter Overhaul

So I picked up my 1986 Enchanter in early June. After a long summer of waiting to have the steering repaired, I finally got it on the water in August. Now comes the winter project. As you can see in the first picture below from over the summer the oxidation was pretty bad. After 10 hours yesterday the gel coat recovered nicely. All of the upholstery is currently being redone. I'm looking for suggestions on replacement of the rub rail. My track is still in pretty good shape but I'm having a hard time locating a similar insert. Any suggestions?

Yup, only got the dreaded red "X's". My Enchanter in an '86 as well, is your's an I/O or O/B? Sounds like a nice boat! Yeah posting pics can be tricky on here, you have to upload you pics to a online host, then link them in on here.

Only ten hours, not bad, took me weeks, wet sand and buff out, still not perfect but I am happy, I will be watching for the rub rail repair. Great job !!

Adams Polishes

Thanks oddly excitered. I used Adams Polishes two step process, plus two friends helped it go a lot quicker. Pulled most of the rub rail off. Found almost all the rivets to be rusted out on the rail and the previous owner attempted to re secure it with screws. I have a sample coming from taco hopefully it fits the channel and I wont have to replace that.

Enchanter

I always liked the Enchanter. I taped off many of them, I especially liked the black with red mist and fog. You have a nice looking boat. Sometimes I wish I was still taping them off.

:welcome: bmcnally49! You chose a great Checkmate to restore. Not only is the hull one of my favorite but IMAO that gel coat scheme on the deck is one of the sharpest Checkmate ever put out on a closed deck. Keep the pics comin along the way.

That looks great. Welcome . You will soon find out why CHECKMATES ARE BOATS THAT YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH. Thats why there are so many old Checkmates that blow the navigational lights off the Wallmart style newer boats. That's a keeper: and a 2 thumb::thumb:
