92 Evinrude 225 V6 loads up

I have been told ever since purchasing my boat that the Evinrude V6 225hp or any other big outboard for that matter will load up when it's been idled for a while. Our lake has quite a few long no wake zones and my motor tends to spit and sputter pretty hard after several minutes of idle crusing. Anyone else experince this problem? Any ideas for correcting or minimizing?? Believe me I like it with the throttle in the other direction but I have to follow the rules!!

First, welcome to the board! Second, I had a 94 Evinrude that did the same thing after idleing for a few minutes. I was reading a service manuel for the motor and found that OMC recommends two different sets of spark plugs, one if you spend time idleing and another if all the running was wide open. Most of the time I ran the plugs for frequent idleing and it basically eliminated the problem. I did not notice any top end performance loss from this either. I read it in those so-called service manuels meant for the customer to buy in a marine storeBill

I thought a change in plugs might be a fix. I was planning on a fresh set of good plugs after I ran the fogging oil out this spring.

No problem! Great looking boat! One more tip for you to help the overall running, and you will be amzed at the difference. Buy a couple of cans of Mercury's Power Tune. After you burn off the fogging oil and before you put new plugs in, shoot a can of this into your carbs per the instructions. I recommend you do this once a month to keep carbon and other deposits from building up. This is very important to do actually if you must burn oxygenated fuel. Even if can can get good fuel, Power tune does wonders to keep the inside of your motor clean. Works great on the stern drive boats too. If you have EFI, just spry ir into the air intake.

Yep power tune is the ticket. Works great and keeps the motor clean.
I had the same loading up trouble with my merc. Changed the plugs and problem is all but gone. It still has trouble idleing, but thats not the engines falt. If it was stock it would be fine.

Loading up at idle so you have to hot-rod the carbon out of it? Gee, that sounds like all the Merc's I've owned
