95 Pulsare 2100BR resto

So time has come to start the full resto of my 95 Pulsare 2100BR. Purchased last year from original owner who stated it was never left out or rained on. Overall condition was good but floor had soft spot behind passenger seat. I got it cheap so was not a concern. Used it last summer & half way through the battery pulled out of floor. Knew it was time for a resto.

I will be replacing floor, stringers & transom. Put in 2 hours work today. One thing I noticed is my floor has no fiberglass on the underside:confused:. Floor seamed to rot from the underside for sure. Onto the pics. More work as I have time this week.

What it looked like last summer.

Best for last, the soft spot I felt. Was just glass as the wood was gone for most part. Rest is just mush & guessing its that way till get to transom. No wonder why battery pulled out :rof: Yes thats the core in the center of pic.

Madtown that seems to be the common theme with CM's. My pulse170 was the same way, soft spot behind the passenger seat and under the pedestals. I believe the reason for the soft spot is that's where everyone climbs in from the water. Good luck with resto!!:thumb: Btw check your knee and horizontal braces both of mine were shot.

Knee's & braces will be replaced also due to transom replacement. Should have motor off next week hopefully.

Man, looks rougher than my '88! Good luck, interested to see how wet/rotted your transom is...

I went through that with the V-mate . The floor was coming up with the carpet . All the wood was shot ....

It is common for all of them. I believe they were built well, just not to last a lifetime. They were in a high rate of production in the mid 90's and for the price a great buy. Good luck with your floor stringer work, don't forget the weep holes in the new stringers/bulkheads!

Mike

Well yesterday friend & I put in another 4 hours of work. Floor is out up to ski locker & so is the foam. Foam was 1/2 water logged with the worst being in front of the tank. That foam was really wet & had about 3-4 inches of standing water present. Unreal that I was able to get speed out of this boat with all the wet wood/foam. Few questions.

What are people using for thickness on stringers, floor & transom? I will be using marine ply for transom & floor. Still contemplating using Coosa for the buklheads & stringers.

1/2" for the floor, 3/4" for the stringers and at least 1 3/4" for the transom. You might need to make adjustments close to where the deck and splashwell meet if you go thicker than the factory transom.

Some more pics of the teardown. This boat for sure did not get taken care of like the original owner said it did. Lots of water in it. I have to believe any Pulsare thats older than 2000 needs a resto :(

Giant glob of foam that was about 40lbs

Standing water after foam removal.

Bulkhead that I think will need replacement that separates ski locker

All the carpet is getting pulled. Going to install blue carpet

With out trying to be rude .............redoing a Check is kinda like opening a can of worms or remember what Forest mentioned ( or is Momma in the movie ) and that was life ( boat ) is like a box of Chocolates because you really do not know what you are going to get and 99% of the time when foam is involved in a Check build it was a 2 lb Floation foam that absorbs water like a sponge .

Oh no worries as I knew it was going to be this bad after seeing other Pulsare resto's on this site. Its just a little intimidating to do the work even though I work on cars for a living.

So got further in tear-down & need some help in two areas.

First is do I cut the floor up to the gunnel storage or do I remove those also to get every last part of floor out?

Second is the stringers are bad up to about half way under the bow section of floor. I really do not want to pull off the bow floor. Could I cut out the bad stringer up to were its ok without pulling floor? Then install a new section? Pic for reference. This boat is rotten bad as far as the stringers go:brickwall:

Madtown I would totally remove everything, once rot starts it spread like cancer. That way you'll know everything is new and trouble free for a long time.:thumb:

I understand the need to eliminate all the rot which I plan on doing but would like to keep the bow floor in it. I dont think I will have a problem cutting out the rotted section & installing new stringer with the floor in place. That way can get the last remaining foam out also.

Other thing is the rear floor. I noticed in KevinR's build he installed new floor with gunnel storage still there. Can you just cut floor to fit the last little amount of old remaining floor? Then glass the two together. Pic of what I am talking about from KevinR's resto

Some more work done. Lots more wet foam & standing water under tank. Ready pull motor tomorrow & transom should be out by ends day. Lots of DBF on one stringer & hardly any on the other side. Do I need to grind every last bit out?

No glass on wood. Exposed to wet foam. No sealer on tie down eyelets either.
