Anyone else with an Ambassador?

I can't seem to locate any other Ambassadors here on this board. Does anyone out here have this boat as well?

I'm especially curious to see if anyone has the Ambassador with the 454 that was optional for it.

mark i have a 1986 20' ambassador with a 350 that is blue on white i purchased it last year for $4500 it is in great shape i did a lot of interior work and am in the process of having a motor built for it. when i am done it should have around 325 horse. it ran about 63 with the stock 260 horse. so hopefully when the machine shop is done i might be able to hit the 70s

Ryan, welcome to the very small group of us Ambassador owners. I guess it was not the most popular Check. back in the day huh?

Sounds like you either got a great deal, or I got taken a little when I bought mine. I paid 3500 for mine back in early '01. At that time, her interior was shot, she had a bad starter, selenoid, impeller, and trim indicator. I did get a trailer with it as well, but it was a single axle roller trailer and the tires had dry rot, and the brakes on the trailer were not working. As of (hopefully) this weekend, I'll have completely hand sewn a new interior and rebuilt all of the interior framing. The impeller, starter, and seleniod have all been replaced. Now I just need a battery, two new tires, some brake work, and I should be in business.

Any pics of your Ambassador?

I have a 1985 ambassador. It has a merc 350 and it propells
me fast enough at smith mountain lake, VA. I am now doing the
clean-up from last year. GREAT BOAT AND GOOD LOOKING TOO.

Ryan,

I also have and 86 ambassador with the 350 (260HP), but it's been rebuilt. My boat would only do about 50 at 4100 RPM with the 21p Quicksilver prop. This year, I put on GLM tuned exhaust manifolds from Dennis Moore, 4" corsa captain's call diverters, thru transom exhaust, and a 19p Laser II. Now it'll do about 57 or 58 at 4700 RPM. I also put on the wakeboard tower, but I still can't figure out why it doesn't go as fast as yours or other ambassadors with the 350. Do you have any ideas?

The previous owner replaced all the wood inside the boat with pressure treated, resin coated wood and fiberglassed it all into the boat. (This is also with 35gal fuel aboard.) I can't imagine the wood could add that much weight though. Help?

Thanks,
Greg
