i need a replacement bbc shortblock close to maryland....or even just a gen IV block...my bead bolts pulled right out of my block this weekend

I am assuming that it is stock and that the head bolts pulled out of the block. That is not a common issue, was there something else going on that caused it? A 454 short block or a bare block shouldn't be hard to come by but i don't know about your area.

nothing that i know of, yes its all stock except for stainless marine exhaust ... well lets see here is how the whole ordeal started.. was cruisung around the bay about 3500-4000 rpm all day ran like a champ not a miss or any thing then i went to get on it and it backfired through the stock quadrajet carb i let it idle for 15min at 1100rpm noticed nothing temp was 150 oil pressure was 30lbs and no miss. then i decided to head in i got on it for about 20min 5000rpm running perfect wasnt even struggling and when i was slowing down for the 6mph zone by the bridge i noticed the driver side exhaust was steaming and the water was smokin hot burned my hand compaired to the passengerside i could keep my hand there.. so i pulled it out of the water and checked the oil (milkshake) and it was about 4in higher on the dipstick than the full mark, so i pulled the head when i went to undo the head bolts all the long bolts were snug not torqued only had about 3 full turns and the threads look like the bolts broke in the block ill post pics soon i just have to take a few, pulling the motor hopefully this week :brickwall:

all the long bolts look like this and the short ones are fine looks like its missing threads to me its hard to see in the holes in the block

Trash it the block is rotton this is common on a boat without closed cooling the rot rate increses when its left in the water. The block is 20 years old they dont last forever without antifreeze. You can patch it now but it will haunt you later.

all that seems wrong.. i cant get the broken pcs. out its like they are rusted in, is there anyway i could get bigger head bolts and just drill and retap the holes ? anyone know an arp stud or bolt part # i can use?

Questions

How many hours on the engine
How many bolts are broke or half missing
Do you have the engine out
Did you take both heads off

not sure about hours only pulled one head and found this problem the engine is comming out this week and if i can just get bigger bolts and drill and tap them i will and just throw a rebuild on it doesnt look too old cylinder walls look good on 2.4.6.8 side bolts on that side are all messed up except the small ones on the bottom all the long ones are so i just figured on pulling it and goin from there

oh i am checking the other side and prob doing a mild rebuild too just need to see what i can do as far as head bolts/studs

Just call summit racing and tell them what you have and what do they have that will work. I buy a crap load of stuff from them and their tech help is always A+

gave me a reason to stuff a cam in it and freshin it up lol it will give me some down time to wetsand and buff and change out my gauges also and hopefully install my hydraulic steering
