BOBS BIGFOOT NOSE CONE KIT INSTALL

Nose Cone Kit

I had bad luck with the epoxy used in the kit, I mixed it exactly like it said and 2nd aplication didn't set up ( it was humid that day ) and I need to find something that will work to finish it again, I used fiberglass resin and it got sucked off the lower unit. Grrrr lol time for a 2nd application of some type of epoxy and suggestions????

IM thinking of doing this myself talked to bobs and they wanted 399 installed.Ive done everything myself on this boat, would you do it again or pay the extra couple hundred Im thinking with my rebuild this winter id like to be able to run the motor up another 1/2" but still need water pressure. I dont have as many options as the mercs.

well think of it this way. the cone costs only 100 bucks or so right? if you send them the L/U you will have to pay shipping there and back. you will also want to dis assemble the L/U before you ship it. so you would have close to 500 into it.

now dont get me wrong. the guys over at bobs could do a better job than you and i can. BUT,that extra 400 could go along way at the beer store.:cheers and if you are like me, i hate to pay for something i can do myself.

this is a job you could perform in 2-3 days.

i have heard jb weld will work great. you just have to make sure you have a good rough surface to bond to.

Lower unit does not have to be disassembled when sent to Bob's. The only welding is a few tack welds to hold the nose cone in place and the rest is done with epoxy. All of the welding is done with a tig which keeps heat to a minimum. Biggest problem I had with the Bob's nose cone was that I never could keep paint it. boatman

man the shipping would be super high with the shaft in place. by the time you are done packing it you would almost have an OS3 dim weight.

I can't remember the exact amount I paid for shipping, but I think it was around $42 one way from WV to FL. And if things haven't changed, the price Bob's charges for installing the nose cone included return shipping. Thats been a few years ago so I may be wrong. I will know in a couple of months cause I'm sending mine down for a nose(cone)job.haha boatman

Might want to do extra research on the Bob's lower unit mod. Rumor over at Scream and Fly several months ago was that Bob has sold the company, and the quality of the LU mod has gone down. Do a search over there. I think the majority are now sending LU's to Titus.

Jw where is TITUS at im in Washington state and ideallly I dont want to send it to the furthest part of the country away from me.

I think he's in Minnesota, but I'm not sure. A search for Titus on Scream and Fly would probably bring up details....

Titus is in Killen, Alabama.

There has been much discussion about the performance of his nosecones on various other boards. They are very nice work though.

Do your research before getting anyone to install a nose cone. Personally, I've learned the hardway and unless your boat goes 80+ you don't need one. As well, ask anyone who has ever had a hunk of bondo come off at 80MPH what its like.
