Bravo1 prop on a 250XS Optimax

I am considering running a 24P or 25P Bravo1 on my Torque-master equipped 250XS. Its on a 2100 Pulsare. Does anyone have any comment on using these props on big O/Bs on this hull?

The boat previously had a 25P Tempest Plus .... which had a decent top end, but its hole shot wasnt great and it had some odd mid-range resonances. Got rid of it.

The other option is a Trophy Plus ... but its a smaller prop with a smaller hub diameter which doesnt match up to the TorqueMaster LU.

thanks

Eboch, my favorite prop on my 21' Pulsare/ 300x was a labbed 4 blade Trophy. It was just an all around great prop. And it only ran 2 mph less then a Merc ET. My least favorite was the Tempest....terrible handling in my humble opinion. I think the Tempest just has to much blade for the Pulsare hull.

I am running Bravos on my dual 28' CM with OBs now. They have been a great all around prop (I have vent holes drilled in the hub). I would like to run a set of choppers and compare the performance to the Bravos.

Good luck-

EBOCH, The small hub 4 blade props are the way to go! It does not matter that the hub don't match up with the gear case. If you do some research on here, you will find that this is what 90% are running. Trophy + is a great prop!

I've ran both on the same setup and like both for different reasons. the Trophy + 26 is a good all around prop for hole shot (not so great when loaded with a bunch of people), mid range, handling, and great for top speed. The Bravo I 24 (not the new XS version) vented with 3/8 holes is great hole shot (loaded or not), insane mid range, with fair top speed, but if you want handling the bravo I is like driving a sports car it handles so good. The 24 was a little high on the RPMs so if you go with the Bravo you my want to try a 25 or 26. Hope this helps.

Forgot to add that the Bravo was way better when it come to gas comsumtion. Not sure why but didn't have to fill up as much when running that one and ran the boat just as hard and as far with both.

Bravo style is the way to go. Because of the large amont of bite they have they need a lot of ventalation to get going...... if you got a 1.62 lower on it.

I've also heard that stock Trophy props are not all built alike. In that some of the castings were alot different then others. If you do buy a Trophy, I would get it blue printed.

Cheers-

Thanks for the info everyone.

Does anyone know what the difference is between a Bravo1 and Bravo-1- XS? The XS seems to be specifically made for the bigger Optimaxs .... but I couldnt seem to find any web info as to what changes Mercury made and why they did them.

KevinR; with the 24P bravo1 .... what top speed could reach at WOT? Also, do you ski with this set-up? .... hows the hole shot with a slalom skier?

Thanks again. Very useful info.

Cheers

The 24 Bravo I WOT went around 68 GPS and it skied great, in fact one time I had eight people and a full tank in the boat and was able to plane like it was just me.

The Bravo I out board is just a Brovo I with 1" vent holes.
The Bravo I XS has a shortened exaust tube and 1" vent holes.

I want to try a Bravo I XS 26 but the vent hole isn't like the plus models PVS and I think the 1" vent might be a little much.

don't get me wrong I like my 26 Trophy 74 GPS and that was before I removed all the weight this winter with the rebuild. We'll see how fast it goes this summer.

Last year, I bought a Hydromotive Quad IV-XOB, which is like a modified Bravo 1. It was about 4 mph slower than a Tempest+ on my boat, both being 29". It did have better all-around manners though.

I've never tried a Trophy, but i did try a [similar] TXP OT4 and found that, with the over-and-through hub, it would blow out really bad and barely plane off with 4 people in the boat.

Wildman .... the 25P Bravo 1 XS may be interesting. Does it come with a hub (19 spline torquemaster .... the kit is 840389K06 I believe)?

What do you think the 2100 pulsare will do at WoT with this prop vs a 26P Bravo 1 XS.

Erik

I had a 21br with a 250xs and it ran 82. I have a standard shaft hub kit I will include, but if you need the big shaft hub, it cost $145

@WILDMAN

question when you said you had a 21BR go 82 in the prior post was that with the 25 Bravo I XS? and if so how did the boat act planing, mid range, and handling with that prop. Just wondering. I'm really interested in the Bravo I XS but don't want to throw $500 away if it doesn't work the way I like.
