Buying '95 Convincor w/502

We've owned a '94 Persuader 218 since spring of '99 and it's been great. I still have people ask if it's new! We're in the process of buying a mint '95 Convincor. A cracked block due to faulty winterizing forced current owner to replace the 454 mag. Our mechanic said 454's are rare as hens teeth these days so they put in the 502 mag. Does anyone have an opinion regarding three vs four bladed prop and the optimun pitch for "all around" performance. Thanks!
 
A 24p Bravo 4 blade is a good ball park start for your boat. 95% of people are running 4 blades on a Convincor including me. A 454 is not rare they just cost more to get now. If you had a choice between a 502 or 454 you can never go wrong with cubic inches the more the better.
 
I agree with Big Red. The 22p is going to be too small although you will get great take off! Go with a 24p 4 blade.
I have a 26p 4 blade on my ZT. Good luck with the selection.:thumb:

Take the boat out and check the rpms. To me I feel you will be turning to many rpms with the 22p with a 502. It would suck blowing your engine over the wrong prop. I like to keep my RPM's at 200 rpms under max rpm's for the engine.

My engine is good for 6000 rpm's and I can turn 5300 on bone slick water very small chop from wind 5500 rpms and a good 1+ foot of chop 5850 rpms.

Your Convincor will turn more rpm's in chop than slick water.
 
I have a 25.3 Convincor 502 with trim tabs, I am using a 25p SS Mirage, I have tried a 23p SS and a 24P SS, I get the best performance out of the 25P. The trim tabs help for hole shot. I would suggest nothing less than a 24p otherwise you are not going to get much engine life.

Thanks to all for the good advice. By the sound of it the 4 blade 24p bravo 1 would probably be a great all around prop. I'm gonna get me one! I want to get the best fuel economy but also don't want to completely depend on the trim tabs to get me up in short order. Go Checkmate!!!
 
Hey guys, I got the Bravo 24" 4 blade. It works great! I didn't give up as much as I had thought out of the hole but the rpm's are down by roughly 400 so the milage (or whatever we call it for a boat!!!) should be improved significantly. Thanks again for the advice...
