Checkmate ID help

Hi folks, I'm thinking of purchasing a local boat/motor/trailer combo through an auction but don't know much about it. Auction descriptions are notoriously lacking and this one is no different.

By looking at the pics, can you tell me what model this is, a ballpark value and maybe expected top speed with this motor/boat combo?

Thanks!

1986 Checkmate. 23 feet long. Hour meter shows: 0158. Evinrude 3.6 XP Outboard motor - No Prop. Offered with tandem axle trailer. Craft has not been started and has no battery. For the purposes of the auction, the operating condition is identified as unknown. Selling condition is specified as "AS IS". No Major mechanical defect is detected

just value boat and trailer, engine condition is unknown, so it has no value in my opinion. those v8 outboards are known for weak lower units.

do you have any idea what shape the transom is in? the boat is old enough to need transom, stringers and floor depending on how it was looked after. buyer beware. if you can steal it, it's worth buying, but i wouldn't be looking at spending too much.

Good advice. Thanks.

What would you consider "too much" in this case?

I'm a newby. My last boat was 15 years ago... an 11 foot tri-hull, 2 seater with a 25hp chysler OB on it. A cute little speedboat. She did around 25-30mph. :)

I bought jetskiis 2 years ago and rebuilt the engines and pumps. I decided jetskiis just aren't that fun for a 43 year old guy to ride around on so I sold em. I need a fast sporty boat I thinK!

Don,
I've got an 83 Enforcer w/ 2001 Evinrude 250 and paid $7000.00 for it. What I found out later was the floor and transom was shot ended up doing a resto from the cockpit back to the stern. I would check the floor around the seat pedestals and rear seat. If you can remove a bolt from the transom or drill a 1/4" sample from the inside to check for rot. Depending on the shape I would offer $3000.00 - $6000.00. Good luck!!

Awesome job on that resto! I definitely don't want to get into something that serious! How fast does your boat go?

Thanks!! The best so far is 65 GPS. Normally 62-63 gps depending on conditions, weight etc.
